When is the best month to fish the fox river? I flyfished there in August a couple years back, but didnd't do well on the main branch. Really pretty area with a great campground right on the river. I did ok on the east branch of the fox though. I was thinking june might be good time except the possibilities of mosquito swarms being so close to the Seney refuge. Any thoughts on this time or suggestions. I did notice quite a few worm dunkers on the main branch as well.

The closer to the opener the better. The river has become a put and take fishery for the most part IMHO. The DNR plants large brookies according to stocking reports. This draws the crowds with the words of 14 to 16 fish. I have taken a couple 17" fish in sept. but They were plants for sure. The East fox is now getting hammered once the fish are removed from the main branch. I have already seen a drop in productivity and size in the East branch. Its to bad because it is some impressive water and can grow some real monster brook trout.

I did September last year and was rewarded. The was almost no hatch to speak of! But the streamers were working just fine.
Last year the U.P. suffered drought and we fished about a dozen rivers. Only a couple could provide with such a drought. They were the Middle Branch of the Ontanogon (regulated by dam), Fox river, and one no name creek!! All the rest had to suffer dearly. The Carp River in Marquette was dismal, the Yellow Dog (one of my favorites) was horrible, the little garlic was reduced to nothing, the Dead River had been destroyed by the dam burst, Salmon/Trout was marginal, Two Hearted was O.K. at best, The Chocolay river had a bad year, Man I miss living up there. There are so many world class streams that people just never go to.:D
