Tire chains really work great in the deep snow and slush. Does anyone have ideas on how to keep them tight? Mine slide around enough to contact the a-arms occasionaly. I have seen a picture of automotive chains with springs across the wheel area. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Got to get yourself a tire chain strecher;) Should be in the same isle as the muffler bearing lube.....

Or you can go to you local ace or aco and pick up some springs...They often have a boat load of different sizes. You might see if you can find a masterlink to shorten them. I have never used them on quads...only on cars out west. Are they too big or to wide??

DuckDog,
I read in another post to deflate the tire, install the chains and then inflate the tire, this should take up the slack and make them tight.

A couple of turn buckles making an X across the tire will keep them nice and snug.

When I drove truck, we used short rubber tarp straps like the steel haulers use to hold their tarps down. Just put it through the chain and pull it over to the other side and hook it. You wind up with it pulling on the chain from three different points. The two hooks and the place you fed it through.

Bungee straps inside and out.

Another vote for bungie cords. Have always worked for me.
