Has anyone ever replaced the hooks on a cicada? I bent the rear hook pretty bad on one this weekend. I checked the BPS catalog, and could find no sign of a similar hook. Would a small treble throw off the balance or action?

I did not notice the trebles hurting the action on mine. Steelyhead has some cicada tricks maybe he will chime in.

nope the treble hooks will work just fine. I have a couple where I lost the back hook, use a split ring and a treble and you will be back in business. I have see the Cicada style hooks at Gander Mountain, but there were to small.

I have also modified them by using some glow in the dark tape. Still testing that theory!

Be careful, when the hooks get bent outwards, they can fall off, since they dont have an eye and arent even on with a split ring.

Trebles will work fine, I havent replaced any of the hooks on mine, but I have fished with a buddy's lure who had them replaced. As long as a the double hooks dont get damaged I see no reason to replace them.

I've done the splitring and #12 conversion. Sweet.

I change the back hook to a treble, it doesn't hurt the action and you will get better hook-ups.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I'll just go ahead and change all of mine to trebles, at least on the back hook.

Jann's netcraft near toledo carries the same style and size hook but of muxh better quality. They don't require sharpening like the cicada's do right out of the box. www.jannsnetcraft.com in their catalog Page 36 lower right hand corner made by eagle claw. #274

I have a question on the trebles, do they get caught up in the line when jigging with them?

I learned the hard way about their hooks last year. I caught a big eye and the hooks must have seperated some. I put the lure back down. Within two minutes of jigging I felt something was wrong. Both sets of hooks had some off the lure.

The hooks that come on them suck anyway. Do the slit ring conversion and a 10 or 12 vmc round bend treble you;ll find you get better hook up's as well.:)

what size double hooks ya need? i got a few (ok, a lot) that i've been trying to figure out a fly pattern for, I can always give ya a few if they're the right size.

A guy I met on the river said to change those hooks to trebs
Like tommy said,,, he also said a size 10 or 12 vmc is what he used... Depending on the size cicada and or size of fish...
Good Luck
