We whip on the St. Clair river. Start with a 3ft. or so stout rod and use a 1-2ft drop on a three way swival(about 2-3oz. weight) and a leader of about six ft. with a pencil plug or a rapala type lure at the end. Some use two or even 3 of these in tandam. Let it down to the bottom on a drop off and procede whipping. Much the same way as jigging only more horizonal. As you pull towards you get ready to release a couple of feet of line to let it go down river. Your lure will go down river and down over a dropoff where hopefully the walleyes will be coming up for food. This method is very popular in the swift current of the St. Clair river. The walleyes seem to hit while going down river so you must keep the line tight much like jigging (no slack).

Hey, I didn't know what it meant either. Someone told me once but I forgot again. As for handling, didn;t know that either.

Yes you are anchored right on or very near a dropoff.

A definite St. Clair river method only, never seen it done any place else.

Walleye Mike now really confuse them. Tell them about the stick method, using minnows and using a "booger" to hold the minnow on.:)

jimbos43,
ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT CHUGGING? USING A CHUGGING STICK, SINKER AND TREBELE HOOK, WHILE DRIFTING? IF SO WHAT IS A BOOGER?

Yep, that's chugging. A "booger?" Some old river rats showed me their set-up. They bite the fat end of a twister tail off, maybe a quarter inch worth and slip it on the hook the minnow is on, to hold the minnow on. They called it a booger. They also had plenty of fish, right in front of Algonac state park.

Yea, the minnows stay on much longer doing that. All that bouncing off the bottom really beats up a minnow real fast. I chug with a short 2ft. stout rod, don't peticularly like the stick.

:D Hey guys I agree with walleye mike, I like having a rod better. I still say its the easiest, most productive way to catch walleye. Oh yeah, entered my first tournament today the MMWA on the Sag. Our team took second place, and I personally took the biggest fish. It was pretty cool for my first tournament. I kinda got a big head over it right now.
Heading to the Detroit River tomorrow. Good luck to all!
