Hi I just started going to school this year at western michigan university and i have no idea where to go to some fishing. If anyone could give some suggestions on what lake i can go to. I like to catch pike on tip ups and jig for anything that is biting. Any suggestions or the chance to tag along would be greatly appreciated

check out those lakes in southern portage on portage ave. There are like 3 lakes right there and they all look great.

there are a couple lakes with decent pike. wolf lake just west of fish hatchery has pike-musky-rainbows. ad fish lake is 1st road west of kruzinga archery shop then about a mile north on west side of road, fish has panfish-pike-bass. good luck!

Welcome to the site Smith!! I'm not familiar with K-zoo but from what I've heard, the lakes down there are picking up. Stumpjumper probably has the most convenient advice for you.
Good luck...Sid

My dad fished on Fish this past weekend with no luck. In the past we've had good luck for perch and gills. As mentioned before, the lake has northerns and even a few muskies. I also would stay away from Wolf, it has springs in it and you can't trust the ice. BTW, I believe both these lakes are off M-43, instead of M-40.
If you venture further west on M-43, about 5 miles past the intersection of M-40, you can hit Schoolsection, which is about 1 mile South of 43. I can't remember the road, but there is a small party store there, the locals call it Glendale. Schoolsection was hot for gills earlier this winter (8"+). It also has perch, crappies, and some northerns.
Another decent lake is Cedar, you would take Stadium Dr. west(it turns into Red Arrow Hwy), to M-40 in Paw Paw and go South through Lawton. The lake is a few miles south of Lawton right on M-40. Good gills and supposedly a few walleye.
My dad has been ice fishing Paw Paw area lakes for roughly 50 years. I grew up in Paw Paw (and also went to WMU), and can probably help you with questions on any lake west of Kzoo.
