Why is it that the when the water is stained that jigging is not productive for walleye? I don't handline but I read that handing is productive when the water is stained. I'd like to try handlining but $140 bucks for 1 reel doesn't sit well with the boss (wife).

Hey Big Daddy,
You can't call yourself Big Daddy if your wife decides your Tackle Budget----HA HA, Just kidding BD
In the St Clair River you can get fish in muddy water if you fish during the day.
The wall fisherman do good in those conditions.
Use dark colored pencil plugs or small spoons.

Another good thing about handlining is the little spoons you use in the summer are only 79 cents.

Hi Big Daddy, I just read a post on another board... Greatmich.com where a guy pointed this same thing out. He also mentioned the fact that he didn't want to get more expensive tackle. His opinion was that when the water is muddy the eyes can't see as well and that the hand liners use body baits that make more vibrations than a jig will. It makes sense to me... So he rigged up a 3 way swivel with a pencil drop sinker on a 12 inch lead and a lead to the bait about as long as your pole.... other wise you will have problems when you try to land the fish if it is too long. Then you need to troll across the current to keep the rig working right. He also said not to use a bait with to big of a lip because with the 3 way you will already be near the bottom and you don't want your bait to dive into the snags. I have handlined and it seems to me that everything he said is pretty accurate and makes sense. Anyway just thought I would pass the information on ... good luck!
