i'm thinking about heading up to the petoskey area this weekend or the next and i'm concerned about ice conditions. I went to clifford lake in montcalm county last weekend and almost fell through:eek: . Anybody know if there is too much snow/slush or if the ice conditions are good. Some tips wouldn't be bad either:D

thx

burt lake as of monday was real slushy in areas. if you stayed on heavily used trails it wasnt too bad, but if you get off them watch out! we did have 2 days of warm (28-30degree) days with -7 last night so it might have settled and refroze! calling for more snow tonight though!!???:(

We got 5 more inches Thursday night. I would recommend leaving the atv at home and bring the snowmobile or plan on walking. If you plan on fishing Burt, I would not waste my time at Maple Bay. The other side of the lake may be better. Walloon Lake has been producing decent catches of perch and smelt. I've been picking up some hawg walleyes out of Lake Charlevoix, but plan on putting in the time. Pm me if I can help in any other way or answer any specific questions. Good luck.

I got the weekend off coming up and I would really like to hip up walloon and charlevoix. Only thing i heard alpena got like 3 feet of snow. Is this true for the petoskey area as well? Ice holding up without too much slush? I would really like to go out, but i wouldn't want to travel all that way for unsafe ice. Thanks for the reports everybody!

The ice on Walloon and Charlevoix is fine, it's just there's so much snow travel is difficult without a snowmobile. Pm me if you like with any specifics and I'll give you the low down on both Walloon and Charlevoix.
