Heading down to Trenton tonight to fish the Lake St. Clair Walleye Association first fishing tournament of the year. What I would like to know is just how dirty the water is as of Thur. I will be pulling wire but I also might do some jigging if the water is about anywhere from the 6 to 12in clairity range from the surface. if you where there yesterday PLEASE post a water reply so that I know what to expect when I get there. Thanks-you

A friend of mine was there yesterday and got 3 jigging. From Wyandotte and Trenton. He said the water was cloudy. Hear that the hand liners are doing better. I hope this helps Jeff. You have helped me in the past. If need more e-mail me & I'll see what else I can find out.

Jeff,
I fished the river yesterday, the Trenton channel visibility was less than a foot. Upriver it got better depending where you went. I think handlining will be more productive until the water clears up. my son and I got six last night (lost at least that many)jigging, but I'll probably hand line this weekend. We had better luck upriver than in the Trenton channel. Good Luck!

Hey guys,

Can anyone please tell me why handlining could be more productive than using a rod? I can't see how it could be more efficient. Can you feel a soft bite better?

I would think setting the hook with a hand line would be more difficult than with a rod. Please shed some light on this, I have neve hand lined or seen anyone do it.

kroppe,
I think the reason handlining is more productive is that you are trolling 2 lures thru the zones fish are located in. You are also covering a lot more area than you can while jigging. You also must add the noise & vibration factors when the water is dirty or stained as it is now. As for setting the hook on a soft bite they usually hook themselves when they hit the lures.
