What is the best overall access spot to get on the Bay? I've gone off kitchen road a couple of times but not in about 4 years. I'm thinking about going out on the bay on saturday for the last day of the tournament. Also.. how much ice is out there? Thanks for any info.

There are access points all up and down the shoreline of the bay. The 'best' one would depend what you're going after, your method of transport, and personal preference.

For example, the water off Kitchen Road is shallow for about forever out there. If you have a snow machine, that doesn't present a problem though.

Linwood Rd has a lot of parking on and off the ice.Boutell the same. The Bay City State Park sometimes charges you to get in. The boat ramp at the river mouth has plenty of parking. Pick your spot.

I hear lots of recommendations for 4x4 ATVs or snowmobiles to get out on the Bay.

I realize with 2wd ATVs we can't run all over the place with the slush and snow that's out there.

But are there good packed trails heading out from the major access points (like Linwood) that we could stick to?

Thanks,

As of last night you can get out with a 2 wheel drive Atv. There was pack down trails going out. I went out 3 1/2 miles-20' of water. That was linwood road. Didn't get any but had two walleyes come in to take a look. I'm going back up Sat. I'll have radio on ch 7 code 0 give me a call.

I just fished the bay on wed. and thurs. and the fishing is slowwww. We caught 1 walleye the 2 days and a whitefish and lost one other fish. I haven't been even marking a lot of fish. We fished off from Erickson rd. straight out and we also tried it a couple miles south of there.
You might be able to go with 2 wd atv's but you have to stay on the beaten path your not going to cut your own trail out there. I had anywhere from 8" of ice to 12" depends on where your at and how much snow there is on it.

My brother ,and a couple buddy's have been out off erickson all week ,and it is rediculous how slow it is. Last year was a riot , this year is for sure another story. Hopefully they'll turn on soon.

I had a great time out there last year also. I'm glad I'm not the only one catching fish. I would judge by the shiver on the river standings a whole lot of guys have not found many fish yet.
Maybe in another week or so things will pick up and make the trip across the state a little more productive.
My uncle thought he had the winning fish last night out there. I herd the yell for help and made about a 50 yard sprint thru the deep snow and watched him do battle for a while only to have it be about 10 pound lake trout.
