Going to the Trout derby by Hubbard Lake this weekend. If none of you have been there, it is a blast. Would like to meet up with some of you if you are going. It is hosted by the LLWC association. Last year I caught some real nice rainbows in there. They also have perch, and monster bluegills.

I will be there and last year was a riot, my wife (ex) caught the first fish of the day after the shot gun start. Nice rainbows for sure. We plan on heading over to Hubbard on Sunday for some walleye fishing too. I would say look for the Shapell 2000 but that will be rather difficult. Plan on staying at the lodge this year to aviod and unnessasary driving. PM me if you need more details.

I'll be there. Half our group is headed up Thurs and the rest Fri. We're going to see what we can see at the Harrisville harbor on Fri. Sat, we'll be towards the north end of the lake during the derby. I'll be in a Hi Tech Magnum shanty. Stop by and have a soda between fish:D

Do you have to be or know a member of LLWC to go to the tourney? I can't make it this year, but wouldn't mind putting on the calendar for next - used to work there about 25 years ago, wouldn't mind taking another look.

I think you need to be a invited guest to fish, not sure but that is how I get in. Gated club and you need to explain who you are visiting in order to get past the gate.

I'll see you up there twoatatime. I'll be fishing with Roober and some friends at the north end of Bear Lake. Fishfoote, you either have to be a member or a guest of a member like IT pimp 2002 had stated. Might be able to work it out for next year.:) Todd

Does anyone who fished in the tournament know how many fish it took to win? Our group ended up with 10 or 11 but we were too tired and half drunk to check them in or anything. Little slushy where we were set up but fishing was good. Thanks.

I heard that most fish for one person was 8 but that was through the grapevine so take it for what it's worth. Our group did pretty good with 11 between 4 guys. My 12 year old showed us all up by coming out ahead with 5. I also heard that longest fish was 18". One of us had one just over 19" but it had to be registered at the lodge by 3:00. We fished till 3 so he was knocked out of it.
We'll be there next year.

where were you two guys fishing. i was at the very west side of the lake. I found most of the fish in the 3 to 4 foot range. We caught some big ones. Secret bait...believe it or not. crawlers.

No Two, that wasn't my kid. He had his stacked in a nice pile for all to see---next to his dads' three. The boy wants to be a pro. All my buddys have unpostable nicknames for him because they are always outfished by a 12 y/o. He does work harder for his fish than they do. I've created a monster!! I had the radio on after the opening frenzy but never caught you. Next time I guess.
Jon, I thought the most active fish were in 3 to 4 feet also. Jigging raps and airplane jigs were getting hit hard at times. They also worked as attractors then the teardrops w/waxies took over. We were in the north west corner moving around some to find the aggresive fish in the open spots.
Hmmmm...crawlers huh

Did you guys fish any other lakes over the weekend? We hit Hubbard on Friday and Badger on Sunday and pretty much got skunked except for a few small perch and a 17" pike. The toughest fishing I've seen up there.
I don't know if you heard but we were the group that had a guy in the Alpena hospital with chest pain. The walk off of Hubbard on Friday hurt him pretty good. He's ok now but we had a scare.

Haha, i did the opposite of you. I fished badger on friday and hubbard on sunday. On friday we hooked into one helluva school of decent sized perch. I think between the three of us we had 50 on ice. Had to stop because we ran out of bait. Hubbard however was a lil slow. got out a lil late. about an hour after sunrise so we setup in 20-25 feet of water and got a few flags but only one 20 inch eye.
Sorry to hear about your friend. I dunno if you noticed our group but we were up to our knees in slush where we started out. Got our quad stuck and there was a Mule that we had to help out also. Also, are you a memeber of the club?
Yes....crawlers.

I did see you guys being pulled out--uh--walked right past you:rolleyes: sorry
No I'm not a member. A good friend of mine is. I've been going up with him ( and his dad, uncles, cousins...) for 4 years. The first year we hit the perch like that on Badger but we haven't been able to put it together since. I don't really like hearing that the fish were there but we couldn't catch 'em. Oh well...
