Went to Lk. Nepessing on Saturday 1pm to dark. Marked two fish, no bites. Fishing there was the worst I've ever had anywhere and there were about 100 shantys out there. Whats all the hype? Was I just there on the wrong day or what? One guy said he got 1 crappie. Other than that, no one had anything. The only fish I marked were in 13 ft of water. We tried everywhere. The youngster I took with me will probably not want to go back out anymore after 5 hours staring at a blank Vexilar.
Oh well, theres always next week. Anyone else out there this weekend? Do any good?

Here is the only tip you need to fish that Lake.
Don't fish where all the other people are at.

I think the fish were just tight lipped this weekend. I went to Watz lake 9:00am to 1:00 pm and Cedar lake from 1:30 to 4:30. Only had two bites and no fish caught. Did not see anyone else catching any either. Spoke with a guy who went to Long lake with similar results. There is good fishing to be had on Nepessing if you can find the right spot. It can be very frustrating if you only fish there on the weekends due to all the traffic on the ice. Don't give up on Nepessing yet. You'll get into them one of these times. Good luck!

bf281,
Cedar lake? Is that the one by north lake? If it is the one I'm thinking of, I thought that was a private lake. I fished their years ago with a guy who had permission and we did very well.

1 Chance, Cedar lake is in the Lapeer State Game Area off of Cedar lake rd. The only access is from the north side off Kings Mill rd. You can not enter from the south as it dead ends into private. Not sure where North lake is as related to Cedar. I've heard alot of good reports for Cedar lake and am not ready to give up on it yet. It was my first time ever fishing there so we did alot of drilling and searching. I read in a book that the DNR has planted trout in there in the past. Don't know if they took or not though.

hey bulletslinger, did you fish pleasant lake over off of indian road near coldwater road. if so where did you fish at. i have been out there a couple times and i am surprised that you didnt even get any bites.
bf281, i had some decent luck at twin lake last winter. the trail going back to twin lake off of kings mill rd is sort of slippery right now so be careful if you head there. i even had a nice pike come through the hole and look at my minnow.

WELL I GO TO NEPESSING EXPECTING TO CATCH A FEW FISH... NONE ON THE SCREEN. NONE ON THE END OF THE POLE. BUT FOR SOME ODD REASON I CAUGHT A NICE 27IN PIKE AND A 17IN WALLEYE. BUT DON'T FISH WHERE ALL THE PEOPLE ARE FISHING. FIND THE SUNKEN ISLANDS AND GO FROM THERE.

Don't waste your time fishing Lake Nepessing on the weekend. Too many people on the ice.
I fish it several times during the week in the evenings and here is the pattern I've seen develop this winter.
I get out on the ice around 5pm. I don't fish in the group of shantys in front of the launch but I go east of them and find water around ten feet deep with scattered weeds.
Using a #14 glow-in-the-dark tear drop tipped with a minnow about two feet off the bottom for crappie and big gills. The gills stop biting around 6pm and the crappies have moved on to deeper water by 7:30ish. I don't mark any fish after 8pm and I head in after that.
