See you out there and good luck. Going to meet up w/ F8 and hopefully get a some of those jumbos. If I can get just few I will be happy. Doesn't take many of those to make a fish fry. Good luck.

How much of a walk is it out to those jumbo's from Geno's? If they don't get my 4 wheeler fix soon I will have to go and walk out. It's tearing my up to read and look at all those pictures of the jumbo's that you guys are getting. Keep the reports comming and leave me some.

You better plan accordingly if you plan on "heel-toeing" it out there, ya gotta go out at least a mile. Don't even think about puttin' your jacket on,, you'll be sweatin' in no time. And when you "think" your out about a mile,, stop and take a break,,cause your only HALF way there.

Not much going on w/ our little bunch when I left. Couple of big pigs and a few dinks for us. Thanks for sharing your shanty FAST8, it was nice to be able to see them even if they did not want to bite. Nice meeting a few MS guys and talking to a few others on the radio. I will be back out sometime later in the week. Its a long walk Slowpoke but it was worth it for me and I only got a couple. I need to get the four wheeler and trailer set-up before I can take my dad out though. By the time he made it out that far it would be time to leave. Hope the afternoon bite got better. WOW!! Those are some big perch.

REPORT---- Slow--- some guys had some some guys not. DNR was out checking for licenses and said everyone was slow. I saw some perch until a musky swam by. Not much in my hole all day. One guy 50 yards from me had a walleye and 5 perch. Nice day but slow.

My dad went out today from 11am- 3....the report is GOOD he said it started off just flat out super HOT, then, slowed at about 1.....left at 3 with about 20 keepers, 7 were above 12!!!! one gigantic 131/2 incher, but, it was FAT, said he lost ALOT of HOGs too, said he may have lost an eye. He said he was about 2 miles out, went in the middle of this group, but, he said no one else was doin so good, he talked to the DNR officer for a while, he also said it was slow, with the exception of him.....guess he just found a hot hole.....he noticed that the people were fishing wrong, with wigglers and waxies, he was just using MINNOWS on a small jig......that is what usually works there for us. here are some pics.....http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/500/4646ice_shot.jpg
here was his catch just shortly into the trip.
http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/500/4646dads_jumbo.jpg
here is the big one of the day!!!! All the fish were caught on a small jig, and minnow. He said when it got slow towards the end, he put on a pimple, and picked off a quick 2 more before he left...

A long walk. OK is there much snow on the ice to make that walk longer. I took a walk on Sag. bay one time. I walk a hour or more then started to see some fisherman, I took a few min brake then started to walk for another hour guess what, I started to see some shannies, I told my son we are fishing here and he said ok with him. so I don't won't to do that again. I hope my 4wheeler get fix soon.

slowpoke, the walk is pretty easy or I would not have hauled my nomad butt out 2.5 miles to the pressure crack yesterday. Though I didn't catch anything, I did have an easy hike.

I'm with WalleyeMike "S-L-O-W"........
For me they wouldn't touch a minnow all day except to play with it. I did manage about a dozen on silver Ken's spoons tipped with chart. Jensen egg, Chart. jig with red bead, Chart./Chrome rapala tipped with red Jensen egg. It was one here, one there and missed a few nice ones. I figured I'd stay till hard dark and see what might happen with that front moving in. From 5 pm till I couldn't see the end of my pole anymore it was hammer time. I barely could manage 2 rods so I went down to one. All they would take at that time was a chart. teardrop with minnow. Not any other color but chart. A buddy of mine was using orange and could not figure why he couldn't catch them, so I gave him my spare rod and we went at it. Up till 5pm I had 12 in the bucket all 11" plus. I got back to the truck and counted out 35 hogs. Broke a hook off in a walleye and snapped a line on another using spider line (pretty sure I had a knot in it) Sure put a nice ending to a long, slow day. I did enjoy just being out there especially with the warmer temps. It was cool talking to all the M-S guys too. I'll be out again this week a few times, just not sure which days. I'll hit ya's on 7. Good luck to y'all !! ;)

Boy was it a long day!:o
We fished until dark and only 12 fish between the both of us on minnows. We fished way back with no luck and closer to shore( past the wooden shanty if you call that close)with all of the fish being taken there. Thanks for the extra minnows and good fishing spot Quickeight and i'll be outside. After you guys left we only landed 2 more fish in the spot all of us were fishing.Just a slow bite day with most of the fish being taken at daylight.
It was a great day to be out on the lake and meet some of you guys,Hopefully Sunday they will give us less walking and drilling and a lot more reeling.
Good luck out there guys.

I can't believe the size of the fish coming off of Lake St Clair this year. Does anyone think we need to be concerned? I guess if I was catching I wouldn't even ask this question. Are we catching enough Dinks to fill the void?
Just wishing I was a fishing.

Greatmich.com had a report today from a fisherman that said he did pretty good at Masonic over a weed bed...mostly with wigglers though and about 1/2 mile from shore. He said anytime he put down a Ken's spoon or anything big it would chase them away. I'm wondering if the amount of traffic at Gino's is chasing some of the more "sensitive" fish away? Might have to start really getting away from the pack this time of year. Has anyone been out the the first hour of dark with pimples for walleye? We've got enough ice for it finally......

Mudpuppy,
Where were you fishing yesterday in relation to Gino's and how far out? I was out on Sunday close to shore and only managed 10 big fish. I will probably give it a try tomorrow afternoon. I don't have a machine, but I don't really mind walking that mile or so where most guys have been fishing.
Thanks,
Ed

Had a blast.
Pat and I didn't slay 'em, but the ones we caught were very respectable. That area has always produced decent fish, but in the 15+ years of fishing there, I don't remember catching fish that size with any consistancy.
Pat's "Play-by-Play" and camera work was too funny. "Walleye coming in from the West, heading your way"..LOL "Set the hook". :p Almost seemed like cheating. By noon the schools disappeared and we started heading toward shore. We managed another fish and lost a couple on the way in.
I sure miss my 4 wheeler. My legs are killing me.
Perch Dinner on Wednesday :)
Thanks Ed.

Shuttle service !
With all the people going out there I'm surprized someone has'nt rigged up a 4 wheeler and trailer to haul people out there.
Not sure what the legal ramifications are but I would pay a few bucks for a ride out. (and back)

SteelEd, I was directly in line with that big wood shanty but about 1/4 mile more out in 10 FOW. They wouldn't take a minnow all day, only jigs w/beads or rapalas till 5pm then it was the complete opposite. Good Luck man......pound 'em !!!

There was a guy at Metro, late in the year, last year, that had an AWESOME trailer. It was like a flatbed trailer that was like 15' long, he had ALL kinds of guys and gear on that thing. His quad was struggling a bit because of all the weight, but still pretty sweet. I personally don't have a quad, and I wouldn't accept a ride from someone who does, unless they had ABSOLUTELY nothing better to do. I'm not sure how guys with quads feel about it,, but shuttling guys back and forth really cuts into the "fishing time".
I almost forgot, VERY good question, Sturge! That makes me very concerned when that starts to happen. Its gotta take its toll, sooner or later. I sure wouldn't mind seeing the limit reduced to 25 or a size limit, but that's another "can of worms". 25 of those pigs is PLENTY!!

My back is killing me from the walk but it was worth it. Sure would have been nice to get another half dozen but 6 pigs is a start. I shouldn't complain though, it sounds like we did better than most. You just have to be patient and wait for the schools to return. Once a muskie came through we were all but done.
I'll be back next week but I'll find a ride.;)
