Wow was it arctic out there today.
What was that wind?...like 70 freakin knots or sumthin.
Damn snow blowin across the ice hittin my face like a zillion stinging needles...makin my eyes water, and then the eye lashes freeze together.....woohoo fun I tell ya.
I got to fly a shappell 4000 like a kite today....that was kinda fun. Feels awful stupid when ya cant stop being dragged across the ice, but you dont want to let the 400 dollar shanty go....just to look dumber chasin it a mile across the ice.....in moon boots....with frozen eye lashes.
Seriously, it wasnt that bad, I mean it only took 4 seconds for the holes to begin refreezing after cleanin them out. The adrenaline rush is second to none!
Is it just MY minnows that dont know how to swim DOWN? Mine swim up really well. And when they see each other down there, they MUST swim circles around each other.
The highlight of the day was just about an hour before dark...we left to go home.
And my brain froze from the 4 wheeler ride. And now I have a headache. And windburn.
Never even saw a perch.
Gawd as my witness....I will have my day of revenge on those little bastard tasty yellow bellies.
Oh yes....soon as I thaw.
Theres your report.

HAHAH excellent report! Man I feel better now. Out of 5 trips Ive caught nothing but a few dink gills. I put my shanty back away and all my gear. There will be some real hot action before I take it all out again, until then its river time.

Huntnut; I know what you are talking about. I was up in Harrison last week and it was -16 when we went out, no wind but my breath was freezing on my glasses and making it hard to see and no way to clean them off.
Sunday is supposed to be perfect weather. Comfy for the fishermen, and those warming trends seem to get the fish hungry.:)

LOL, huntnut.
I know how you feel with that shappel 4000. Lot of shany to hold down when it's windy.
Day's like that I go to my peminate shanty! Nice heater and don't move when you get out;) Only down fall is a little harder to move if the fish are not in the area.
better luck next time.

Years ago when I was looking to buy a shanty I went out to Metro Beach to look and see what other people were using. It was real windy and when I was walking up to a guy to see what kind of shanty he had he bent down to pick something up and his shanty took off with the wind. He started running after it and all I could see was a small black dot in the distance, he stopped running after about 300 yards and all I could assume was that somebody in Canada received a free gift. No, I did not go up to him to see what kind of shanty he once had!

Hey huntnut...........The next time you go sailing in your shanty and it gets going a little too fast...Just take it down or open the other door.. It only took me about a mile to figure it out:D Good thing too...I was about 150yrds from open water!
It's kinda a cool ride after you get over the initial panic stage. I liked it so much that I think I 'll build me an ice boat some day....Looks like a good way to die:p I guess it used to be real popular 50 years ago. LSC was one of the stops on a national tour.

When it's windy, I don't dare pop up my Shappel 3000 until I've got it tied down with an ice anchor. I get it to the point where I'm ready to fold it up before I pull the anchor. Shanty sailing is not my idea of fun.

I seperated my shoulder on Holloway Resevoir(sp) when the wind took my 3000 and I tried to grab it.

thats why I got rid of my clam and went to a shappel rover one man....additionally....I take my auger and sink it about 6 inches into the ice upwind and put the rope from the shanty over the auger and at the bottom of it so the shanty won't blow away when I step out of it. I do all of this before I open it up and enter it....ain't now way you're gonna loose a shanty that way.....they should put that in the instructions!!!!!

When you bury your auger like that to use as an anchor don't you run the risk of having it frozen in?
