I have tried several different types of slip bobbers while ice fishing but have had the same problem with all of them. The line gets a little ice on it and won't slip through the bobber (even with split shot). I have looked for slip bobbers with larger holes but haven't found any. I have resorted to pulling in the line hand over hand when I get a fish which is fine on shallow lakes but I would like to be able to reel in the line on deeper lakes to minimize the amount of tangles I get and line sticking to the ice. If any one has any suggestions on a good slip bobber for ice fishing or any other proven methods that allow you to reel in the line all the way with a teardrop jig on it I would appreciate your help. Sometimes I use a Swedish Pimple and drop it down and I can reel this up but wanted a way to fish a bobber and teardrop jigs.

jnpcook,
Boy you have a tough one on your hands. This is something I've wrestled with for the past two years. I've tried WD40, it will work somewhat but it also makes your stop slip-bad deal! I've tried weighting the bottom of my float so that they always stay upright to let the line slide-no deal! I've tried double slip knots so I could use a bead with a larger hole-no dice! I've tried no bead with a doulbe slip knot-no deal! So this is what I'm doing now- I epoxy a small hole bead to the top of the bobber and use a small thread slip knot on the line. I can easily reel in 35' of line but I have to strip the line back down the hole through the bobber. And I also use enough weight to make the bobber almost neutral bouyant. I think the only thing I haven't tried is to increase bobber size and then weight. But practicality says that's the wrong way to go. In 35' of water I can see my minnow working I'm catching crappie when the bobber just breaks through the surface film coming up. Good luck & let us know if you find success.
