Subject: Policy Alert-Dove Bill

IT’S NOW OR NEVER (OR NOT FOR A REALLY LONG TIME) TO PASS THE DOVE BILL!

HB 5029 the bill to allow the Natural Resources Commission to establish a dove season will be voted on next Thursday, February 5 by the Senate Appropriations Committee. We are confident that we have sufficient votes to pass it out of committee. It is expected that the bill will be taken up by the full Senate the week of February 8, 2004. Our vote count shows that we have just enough votes if all who have committed to voting for the bill remain on board. This is a very close vote!!! Please contact your Senator and ask for their support for the bill. I can assure that the opponents of the bill will be making calls by the hundreds over the next week trying to sway just a few votes which is all that it will take to defeat this bill.

Good news Linda, let's keep our fingers crossed folks! I've written my senator, and have been told she is in full support. Never too late to get the emails rolling! Someone posted links to all the senators emails on the main thread at the top of the page, so there's no excuse not to write a quick note asking your senator to support the bill!

The person who cancelled this vote is (soon to be former) Sr. Shirley Johnson of District 13.

Let her know what you think of her antics!

Don't assume we will win this one w/o an all out effort!

Johnsom term limits out in 06'.....If she continues a career in politics, we will have to do our part to make an example of her.

a short note telling her that her childish game of delaying the vote won't be getting her anywhere except in HOT Water with the voters of this state. She should be ashamed of her actions, ... and she will be remembered for it when election time rolls around  :D

after I saw the e-mails from US Sportmans Alliance:

Senator Johnson,

I have been informed that you abruptly cancelled the scheduled
hearing on HB5029 today. Maybe there were other circumstances,
but I believe that you did this to cause problems for supporters
of the bill who were planning on attending the hearing. This is
a cheap trick, and it won't be forgotten.

Senator, while I might not be in your district, with Michigan's
term limits, you will eventually either be running for a state
or county office. Michigan hunters will remember your actions
and will work against you in the future, if you continue to work
against them.

You might get the support of hunters if you at least give the
bill a fair hearing with enough time for supporters to attend.
You would most definitely get the support of hunters if you
support the bill and help to usher it to the Senate floor.

Sincerely,

Jeffery L. Scott
