DIRECTOR
MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
One of the nation's premier natural resources agencies, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Director. The Director is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of the Natural Resources Commission (NRC). The Director is also a member of the Governor's Cabinet. The Salary range for this position starts at $115,000.
The Director leads an agency of 1500 Full Time Equated Positions with a $250 million budget responsible for 3.8 million acres of state forest; 97 state parks with over 23 million visitors per year; fisheries in Great Lakes and interior waters; wildlife management; conservation law enforcement; forestry and fire control; land acquisition and disposition; oil and gas leasing; grant administration; and human resource management.
Major responsibilities of this position include NRC affairs (policy), leadership responsibility for organizational development, management of financial and human resources, program evaluation and control, development of legislation and coordination with the Legislature; liaison with the Office of the Governor, other State agencies and, constituent groups. The Director must possess the ability to: provide creative direction; improve program integration; initiate and support quality improvement; develop innovative and entrepreneurial methods of customer service delivery systems; interact effectively with diverse stakeholders; and, improve outreach programs.
Candidates should have extensive senior executive experience in a large organization in natural resource management, public policy and administration obtained in either the public or private sector. Demonstrated leadership qualities are essential. The Director should have the ability to lead a management team that creates positive partnerships and relationships with members of the Michigan Legislature; Office of the Governor, other State agencies, citizens and constituent groups, and local government entities.

A minimum of a Bachelor Degree and at least 5 years of senior executive level direct administrative experience in leading a major public or private agency with complex and diverse programs is highly desirable. That experience includes: Working with Commissions and Boards; Direct Legislative experience (development, presenting & testifying); Budget Development & Management experience; Restricted Funds Management; Public Policy Development & Administration; Constituent Relationships; Natural Resource Management (Wildlife, Fish, Forests, Parks, Law Enforcement, Land & Mineral Acquisition & Management); Organizational Development & Management; Quality Improvement Management; Human Impact Management (Health, & Safety, Equal Treatment, Ethics, Harassment, Discrimination, Drug & Alcohol, and Reasonable Accommodation/ADA).

They have to post all positions that will be opening up...to conform to the discrimination and freedom in hiring laws.

I think they already know who the next director is...;)

I hear K hasn't had any luck finding another job yet...:eek: ;)

I'm sure the guv. was looking for someone new before she told Cool he could look to another state for gainful employment. That was many months ago.
But this post is to serve notice how fast things can change.
I'm sure her last appointment of Ms. Brown should have many wondering how the next few years will go.

linda........i think it is between to women and the one use to handle the elk hunt Kathryn Humphreys not sure on the spelling....there is another woman i heard of from glen matthews and two men but i am thinking they are leaning towards Kathryn am i right .....She would make a good director but i'm not sure on her political preference and i'm not sure that will play in but with JG it just might who knows.....

I think your thinking of Becky Humphries from the DNR Wildlife
I think she was pretty high on the list of qualified people.

hey Airoh........I think your right i stand corrected......But there is one with the first name of Kathryn , i guess i cant think of her last name......She has been at the elk check in station several times and knows her stuff she would get my vote.....but i think Becky would do a great job to.....Who ever they are i just hope they listen to us sportsman.....The director needs to be a hunter and a fisherman or woman and they need to love the outdoors,,Above all else they need to not be a yes person for any one.....And we need to hold them accountable for ther actions as director.....just me 2 cests
