Ford Lake 1-21-04

Hit Ford Lake today around 9AM. I tried out my Vex FL-18. I didn't mark many fish. I moved around a little and found a small school. I caught 2 nice perch. I couldnt have caught them without the Vex. Fishing was slow. I Left at Noon.Buzz;)

I am new to this area and have been thinking about trying Ford Lake this year. Is the fishing always tough on this lake. Don't have sonar or aquaview so its hit or miss for me. What can you catch there? How safe is the ice? Can you recommend any spots? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to this area. Ford Lake is close to my house,however I have only fished it twice. I fished there last year and had about the same luck as I had today. The fish seemed to be schooling. One minute nothing the next both rods had action. I only had three hits today. The bite was very lite. The Vex was a great help because I could see the fish when the school came in. I caught one on a wax worm, the other on a minnow. I was straight out from the boat launch in about 22fow. The ice is good and clear. I am very cautious when it comes to ice. Today I felt very safe. It was about 6-7in thick. If you want to go sometime PM me.-Buzz ;)

I have a spot on Ford that has lots of weed beds and looks like a nice place to set up a tip up. I'm thinking of hitting it on Monday. Anyone interested in joining me can send a PM.

Just to let you guys know, on my way home from work the other day I passed the western part of the lake (Rawsonville Rd and Huron River Dr) I saw snowmobile tracks and foot prints out on the ice. It was near the slalom skie coarse. I thought that was kind of odd considering I could see slushy ice a couple hundred yards away. I'm not an icefisherman, but I don't think I would take a snowmobile out right there.
It did look like there was good ice over on Edison Lk. on the other side of Haggerty Rd. I didn't see anyone fishing but you could tell people were out ice skating.
