For those of you who fish the Saginaw River...just wondering what you use for line. I have been using 8 lb Fireline with marginal success. Just wondering what others are using. I want to try something different this year. Thanks

I have always used 6 or 8 lb mono.

what I have found that works really well is, 8 lb spider wire, with about a 3 ft. 6 lb flourocarbon leader under a barrell swivel. I like the spider wire because it has virtually no stretch and you can detect the slightest tap, and with no stretch you get a very good hook set. I use the mono lead for obvious reasons, and the barrell swivel helps reduce line twists if you are using a jigging rapala or spoon in the current. That's what I have found works best for me.

Have been using 6# triline xl....but I like mkroulk's set up better. that line twist is a pain with the raps.

For the ice fishing I perfer the Berkley Trilene Micro ice fishing line. Even though the 8 lb micro ice line seems a little too stiff.

8lb Trilene Micro ice is a good all around line. Have a nice smooth drag on your reel though, you never know when a real beast might latch on to your lure.

8# Maxima tied to a barrel swivel then a foot to two foot 6# leader. Have yet to have a problem with this. I get some line twist, but it would be alot worse without the barrel swivel.

JRock......I use fireling for just about everything, its an awesome line that is hard to cut, even holds up good against edge of ice. The key is if your going after line shy fish is to tie on a barrel swivel and go to 3' or so of mono in 6# or 8#. I've used 6# fireline for steelheading, then 6# maxima (strong line) for leader and still will break off maxima before fireline.

8# trilene, Patch, I tried green for a couple of years on one pole, never had much luck. Must be in the wrist.
