Van Ettan lake, Oscoda county

Hey guys, does anyone know anything about Van Ettan lake. I've heard it is a good perch lake. I will be coming up from south of Grand Rapids to do some smelt fishing on Higgins this winter and thought I would give it a try during the day. I have fished Higgins for perch before but I haven't had much luck. Its just too big to try to find them in one day. Thanks

not in oscoda county. it's just outside the town of oscoda in iosco county. never fished it, just wanted to make sure you knew its location.

Van Ettan is great for perch, I have done best on wigglers there. Try the East side by the launch, there is usually a cluster of shanties there, but the perch are plentiful. But you do have to weed through them to get some decent size ones.


If you are already at Higgins, you will get much better size perch.

How is the ice on Van Ettan?? I may try it on Saturday. Any info would be helpful.

Two weeks ago we had 8", so its probably 12'+ by now.

We fished it saturday and had it pretty slow but caught a few nice ones. The slush on top the ice made it hard to pull my shanty out though. Hopefully by this weekend it will be solid:) Try wigglers on glows and pink jigs........marty:D

Where were you fishing marty? Fished the end opposite of the launch the last two weekends and caught no keepers. In laws have a house on that end and last year we kept ~200 between 8"-12" in 7 trips. This year nothing but little 4 inchers.

We fished off the air force beach but that slush was terrible. Hopefully it will freeze back up as we got a newbie were taking out. He still can't believe we walk out on the ice:eek: Might try the other side as we usually do better over there then the beach.......Good luck.......marty:D
