I recently moved to Commerce Twp and am looking for some guidance on spots to ice fish. I grew up on the east side fishing LSC, but now it's too far to go to fish a quick couple hours in the morning or after work. I am mainly interested in Perch, Gills or Walleye. Any help is appreciated...

I live in Commerce also..

try Wolverine, or Long lakes...both have the species you seek, easy access, Bait shop is on Glengary rd, just east of Benstien. Bait is also available at the 5 lakes party store on Cooley lake rd.
also K D Outdoors on M-59, between north and south Williams lake rd.

Cedar Island Lake is one that I plan to try this year, I do well on it in the boat..its on Oxbow lake rd, South of Elizabeth lake rd.

Access for Wolverine is on Glengary right behind Wolverine Lake municipal offices

Access for Long lake is on Cooley lake rd, just west of Union lake rd.

Union Lake is also supposed to be decent, although I have nevr ice fished it. Its a slow lake to freeze, so be extra careful.

You also have Walled lake, ONLY accessable during Ice season thru the beach at the north end of the lake..

Lots of others in the Lakes area, but I have yet to fish many.

Pontiac lake is only 20 min...Kent is about the same..

Thanks for the help TrailFndr! I live near Tray and Cranberry Lakes (Cooley Lake and Carey Rd.). Do you know if either of them fish well? I also plan to do some scouting in the Proud Lake and Highland recreation areas for hunting. A little off topic for this forum, but email me if you have any advice on that as well! I also live in Commerce and have been trying different lakes for the last couple years. So far Pontiac seems to be the best through the ice. I have caught a lot of crappie at Kent lake but this year I've heard it hasn't been too good. I plan on trying Potiac Lake after work tomorrow and will post after.

I used to live on Cooley and fished it regularly. Lots of 'gills and some absolute hog crappie.

Coolley is supposed to be good, However there is no public access..

I just left Long lake, didn't fare too well, but watched a MONSTER pike take my crappie minnow and break my 2 pound line...I was in 10 ft of water, about 200 yards off the launch

Never tried Tray or Cranberry...again, NO public access...

Fished Pontiac Lake and caught 8 crappie and 5 gills about an hour before dark. Lost a couple more at the whole and had one flag on my tip-up. I would have caught more but I broke a line and had to re-tie in the freezing cold. Biggest crappie was a 13 inch hog.
