Saginaw River Report 1-18

[Ruff Rider]

Fished by Hooter's in the a.m. Caught 2 eyes, 14" and 15" and lost a bigger fish (it may have been a sheephead) by the hole. Didn't seem like anyone did real hot this morning. Anyone else have luck anywhere else?

Fished by the electric rabbit from 5 - 6:15 last night. Caught 13 walleye, 2 - 14 inchers and the rest were all under 10. Jighead outfished the rapala 12 to 1. It was fun fishing for the first time out this year but a little disappointing not to bring one home. Had several other 'lifts' but nothing felt substantial. Better luck next time.

over the weekend I fished in the downtown area. I ended up catching around 14 fish but only two were keepers. 1 @16" 1@19". Orange and chartuse jigs, and blue/silver Rapalas worked well. Marked several fish on the Vexilar Sunday night but they were not very active. The fish I picked up sunday night were caught by barley jigging at all.

Fished Saturday Morning by the Z-Bridge.
Ice is a little "iffy" and spotty. We were on about 3.5" of ice. First inch or so was white, soft ice. A guy went through up to his waste about 20 yards in front of us. Not good.

Fished from 7am to 11am. 15 walleye, two nice perch, and a silver bass. All but one came on rap's. Biggest walleye probably 13" or 14". No keepers. Fun none the less.

I'll give the river a week or two to firm up before I go again. There were quite a few guys there.

Fished Ojibway Island sunday with my dad. Two hit's and that was it. Will be out on the river sometime this week.

Fished N of the RR tressle yesterday,(MON) lots of throwbacks. Ice was about 4" and solid. blu/slv rap with a minnow head was the hot lure. Back at it on Fri.

Fished hooter's again this morning....brrrrr......didn't catch any but had a couple bumps. Seems like the current was stronger than the other day. I don't think anyone around me had any luck either. Hopefully give it a shot again tomorrow morning.
