Minnow hook location

Over the past few days I have noticed a difference in the fishing action with how the minnow was hooked. For example, hooked just under the spine, produced slow results; whereas, when hooked through the top of the lips more hits resulted. Maximum results came when the minnows were hooked through the bottom towards the top of the lips. Just wondering if any of you have experieced similar happenings?

I also noticed that hooking through the lips gets me the best results. The only down side is that the lips aren't that durable. I've tried through the tail, but they swim so hard you can't rely on your spring bobber.

for crappies, i prefer a tiny treble in through the back, but just barely, the minnow will stay alive all day that way. for perch, i prefer through the lips, as it definitely seems as though the perch prefer to take a minnow head first, whereas crappie take the entire minnow down no problem.

Dead stick gets a minnow hooked through the back, just behind the dorsal. If I'm jigging I hook the minnow through the lower lip and up through a nostral.

When fishing for perch, I use a small jighead and run the hook in just behind the head and up and out through roof of minnows mouth. This way holds the minnow horizontal well, and as soon as they start to take that soft little check of the head of the minnow...WHAM ! The don't have time to spit it back out ;)

I hook my minnows in the top by the dorsal fin. I think the fish looks more lively hooked that way.
