Best auger?

I would like everyones honest opinion about power augers? I've got spuds for early ice, a lazer hand auger for shallow to mid range water and ice, but I'm undecided on my new big auger for sag bay. 8" or 10". Everyones opinion is truely welcome. Whale I'm realy interested on how your new electric auger works. If you see this give details! Good fishin!

I've got a 2 hp Eskimo with an 8" bit. I love it ! Always starts easily and it's not too heavy.

Eskimo gets my vote !

I've had a Jiffy Legend,8", 3 hp for four years and I haven't had a problem with it. It is heavy but I put it in an Otter sled and pull it out with all my other gear. It goes through 20 inches of ice quickly. That's the thickest ice I've encountered so far. We lay our collapsible shanty on top of the sled and pull it all at once. :D

I've had a 3hp Jiffy for about 10 years now and never had a problem with it. And a few of the members here can attest to the fact that the thing cuts a ton of holes fast!!.....Patch

Hey Shooter, I'll give you my report on augers when the contest is over........ ::D Just kidding. I picked up a 9 inch, 2 horse Jiffy with "stealth" cutting technology a couple weeks ago & so far I really like it. Not as heavy as my old Legend 3 horse but cuts quite a bit faster. I'm losing an inch in hole size but yanked 2 eyes through Saturday without any trouble. The only thing I've noticed is if you let any slush at all freeze on the point you may as well be choppin. Keep it clean though & it rocks.

Have you checked out the Normark fin-boreIII or the nils master power augers. They are sweet units but they are expensive. I have been trying to get more info on the Normark but it is not sold in the states. You have to get it from Canada and they are about $500 american, they have a husqvarna motor on them and a 10" only weighs 25#. The Nils master is around the same weight and is around $470 for 8", they claim "it cuts 41" of ice in 12 seconds", I'd like to see that. They both have the "lazer" style blades on them but they have high rpm chainsaw type motors on them. Interesting..................very interesting! Has anyone seen one of these augers in action? I bought my uncles Strikemaster with a 8" blade. So far, I love it. Beat's making holes with a hand auger, even when the ice is only 7" or so. I have the same deal as Eye2 does with the tip/blade freezing up with slush. Other than that it's awesome. Not very heavy. I think it's a 2horse.

I got the Eskimo Mako with 8" auger about two weeks ago. I love it. It cuts great. Eskimo gets my vote.

I gotta 2hp Jiffy and I've NEVER had a problem when ice forms on the blades and auger. Just this weekend,,, I was moving my shanty and had to drill new holes, and the auger and blades were COMPLETELY covered in thick ice,,,, I just cranked her up and she marched right through the ice.

I just called the Husky dealer and he said they cannot get the Husky ice drills any more. He said they must not be selling tem in the states anymore. They are on that international web site but not on the U.S. site. :mad:

I just went with the Strikemaster Mag 2000, 10" and I love the unit but wish I had gone with the 8" blade. I use the new HT Polar extreme tip ups that are sized to fit five in a five gallon bucket, 10.25 inches accross. Any wobble at the beginning of the hole causes my rigs to be under water.
