I want to make a insulated cover for my smoker,
How did you make yours.
I`m not to keen on smoking in my garage.

I never smoke in the garage, always outside. Don't understand why an insulated cover? For use while smoking?

Hi Mike
Yes For use while smoking, Just to insure I can reach the proper temp. I` m going to smoke some elk & beef jerky today, and tomarrow some fruit smoked chicken. And hard boiled eggs. Let me know how yours turned out.

I tried to completely cover my little chief and had disastorous results. The moisture needs to escape or else you will have mush meat. Instead, I ended up making a three sided shelter with a lid and positioned the smoker so the open side was not facing into the wind. (Even a little wind makes a difference) I used rigid insulation for the shelter. Hope this helps.

I'm doing my chickens right now. Just keep it out of the wind. If yours is electric just up the temp knob. I do most of my smoking during cool and cold weather. The element stays on most of the time and burns the wood better.
During the summer I have a hard time burning the wood because the thermostat keeps kicking off because of the warmer temps.

Thanks Wayne & Mike
I just got back from running errands, I`ll putting on the jerky shortly. I try keeping it out of the wind first, if that dosent work I`ll rig up something to protect it from the wind.

I did notice while shopping for smokers online that Cabelas sells an insulated blanket to fit on the Little Chief and Big Chief smokers, I have used the Little Chief before and I could see where in the winter cold it may not heat enough. I believe it was 19.99.

One time, I flipped the box over to cover the Lil Chief smoker. Man did that jerkey turn to charcoal in a heartbeat!! Not only does it not let the moisture out it greatly increases the heat! Wont be doing that again......
