this is the name of our shanty. it is 7' tall, 4' wide and 8' long. my question is this: we used a blue tarp for the "walls". should we have used black, or will the blue work. i have heard about fish being spooked if too much light is let in the holes.

any suggestions?

Blue or black will work. Fish dont spook if there is light in the shanty anymore than they would if you didnt have a shanty. Your fine. I usually leave a window open or let some light in so I can see what the heck is going on. Good luck

Don't paint it the paint will crack and flake off. We had a shanty that we used blue tarp we I don't think we ever had a problem. A darker trap is nice if you fish clear waters to where you can spot fish down a hole.

I agree with Steve, Don't paint it. It makes one heck of a mess once the paint start to crack and come off. Learned my lesson the hard way. Paint chips everywhere! :D

well the paint was just an idea. sounds like a bad idea. If you find the fish spooking or its to light maybe you could bring another tarp and wrap it over with bungies

we used 1.5" cpvc pipe and made supports...picture a pair of horseshoes, standing upright.....one support at top center......one on each top corner and one on each bottom corner running lenght-wise. the smaller tarp will fit between these poles and the blue tarp.

maybe we will just do a side and the top....and leave one side open for light. my reasoning for this is for LSC and the clear, shallow water.....when fish are visible in the hole.

thanks for all of the feedback.

Blue tarp is just fine. I use my fish trap 2 at LSC in 7' of water last year and never spook any fish. Wind and light gets in my trap.

jstfish, watch out for very cold and windy days, I made one like your talking about last year out of pvc. Went out one day when it was 15 deg. and wind around 20 mpg. I got it up and after about a hour all I heard was snap, crackle, pop.

But then my friends came to my rescue, well at least they came over and laughed at me:D. Your pvc is thicker than I used so hopefully you'll be fine.

I replaced mine this year with 2 x 2's
