Since there is no fishing to talk about...... What is your hot perch lure for icing some of those tasty yellow bellies???

My favorite lure after 30 years is a solid gold teardrop with a red bead on the line. #2 is pink/white. I have done really well when they snapping on the smallest firetiger rapala too.

I like the fire tiger rapala too. I also have caught em on various color 1" tube jigs threaded thru the hook backwards...

I don't really have a favorite, it seems like they bite something different every time out there.

I'm curious though, Connor, why thread the tube on the hook backwards? Are you using a "weighted jig"?

I thread it on backwards so the ends of the tube flutter up and down as you jig it. It drives the perch nuts sometimes. I use a very small jighead or a medium size teardrop depending on depth and/or current...

Those "red" beads are hot SS.

I like using a Copper colored Ken's spoon with a red bead. Chrome with a red bead would be my second choice.

You guys talked about these spoons with a bead on them last year, so I bought some. Question is - how do you fish them? Are they baited?

I've done well using minnows on various color tear drops. Moving around a lot, when they stop biting, helps too.

I'm probably not the right person to respond as I don't usually do that well on the ice but try jigging it up off the bottom a couple times and let it flutter down towards the bottom. Let it sit near the bottom for 5 or 10 seconds and repeat. If you have a Vexilar you can see what depth the fish are at and adjust your depth. If the fish are active, the bead is usually all you need. If they are slow, try tipping the hook with a wax worm or mousie.
OK you ice guys, come on and let us know how you use these spoons to catch em! :)

I use Anise Beads with my perch rigs and you just drop it on the bottom pull up 4-6 inches and drop it back on the bottom. I use them with a Ken type spoon and also with a 1/64 oz jig on a 2 inch dropper from a Swedish Pimple.

All I use for perch are chrome spoons with either red , green , or orange beeds. We call them guster hooks . If they ain't hitting on them it wasn't meant to be. Anybody else know of the spoons I'm talking about. Can I get a witness????

my favorite (for LSC shallow perchin) rig is a #10 or 12 blood red hook (or a bright green teardrop, not chartruse) tipped with a wiggler with a split about 4" up and a glow in the dark bead between the split and the hook

ill usually cut a double hole and at the same time i will have a flasher/mudder that i work to draw them in

the flasher/mudder has about 4-6 oz of lead on the bottom with about 6 or 7 large silver colorado blades on it spaced about 4" apart, starting about 4" above the lead

ill jig the flasher/mudder 3-4 times and make sure i kick up some mud and then jig the bait a few times....once i see perch in the hole i will just jiggle the bait to get their interest, and then once they see it, drop it to the bottom and let it lay....from my experience, they WILL NOT REFUSE A WIGGLER, for whatever reason

last year i was out at SANG and caught limits, when "the bite was slow"

try my system...IT WORKS

I 'll vouch for that koby...I used to fish with an old timer years ago that worked a rig simaler to that.. He also used to put 15 or 20 minnows in a gallon jar and let it set on the bottom.. Funny watching the perch try and eat the minnows!

Chuck, I know all about those guster lures, you speak of, and you are right on the money. That is all I use, best lure I ever seen and used. I know the guy pretty well that makes them, I order a least 20 or so a year, I must have aleast a hundred of them. My favorite is the 50/50 red bead, I also like to smash the plastic hard bead off and put a soft bead on.

I know the spoons you are talking about. I make them and sell them. Gone Fishing is correct on how to fish'em. I generally dont bait them, beads only.

so how much are you selling them for ?? I 'd like to try some out.

Are you the one that was making them out of a car hood?? Remember seeing that last season.

I still say that I 'll be in metro boat basin slaying the perch on thursday. Wind needs to lay down before the big lake is going to freeze.

Where can I get some of those Guster Spoons. Are they similar to Ken's spoon's??? I would like to get some spoons, could you let me know where they are available around Detroit?

Why are these spoons better than others, what makes them different?
