Can Any One Tell Me If There Is Atv's And Snowmobiles Runnin Around On Houghton Lake Or Any Of The Area Lakes Close By Yet? Im Trying To Figure Out If I Should Bring The Atv's Up For The Weekend Of Jan. 16,17, & 18. Thats The First Weekend Of Tip up Town... How Many Inches Of Ice Is There On The Lake Now?

there were plenty of sleds and 4 wheelers out on the ice this weekend. That being said, you wouldn't see me out there on one just yet. Let a few more inches of ice form, there are still some very thin areas of the lake still. There were only 5-5.5 inches of ice in the good spots, less in the bad, take it easy and give it a little more time to freeze up more solid.

quads are runnin all over the south end as of 12-27-03 and sleds are going aroung the edge where there is no open water. currently around the south end is 6" or so and 6-7" in the east bay. with this warmup who knows how much will honeycomb but should be refrozen by T-U-T. my prediction is def. wont be safe for cars like in years past.
