Hit the ice on a local lake this afternoon. Was on the ice by 3:30 and off by 5:30. A warning to all if you are not around the lake and know how the ice is progressing be extremely careful. My dad and I hit a lake we know very well and how the ice forms very well on it. We made it out to a productive spot in 16' of water and the instant I set the transducer in the hole was marking suspended fish 2' off the bottom. On this lake that is a very good sign. I baited up and sent my teardrop on its way. by the time the bait hit the 10' mark fish were on thier way up. I instantly had one on once the 2 lines met on the flasher. Turned out to be a very productive afternoon. I released close to 40 nice gills and kept a limit of eaters. The smallest kept 71/4" the largest 81/2". I released about 10 that would have easily streached the tape to 9". The ice was only 2" of good stuff and 1 of honeycomb. If you are unfamilar with certain lakes you good easily get dunked by walking onto 3" of the honeycomb stuff.
So be careful.
