WALLEYE MIKE

Just got back from Stoney's north lake. Limit of gills by both me and my buddy. I also got a pike on a tip-up.
Recipe for tip-up pike: catch a little perch. Put perch on tip-up and set in hole. Wait for pike to hit. BAMMMMM Pull in pike. Will post pic in a little while.
4 in of good solid ice. No ill effects from todays "heat" Two inches of snow on top of the ice. Even that is not yet melting.
Pike is 25" and weighs about 3 lbs. Nice and stocky for 25"

Looks like I am going to have to head to Stoney. It seems to be the only place with ice. I figured it all melted with all the warm temps.
BTW, glad to hear you had a good day.

Whale, only a couple of lakes are fishable here. Mainly shallow pot holes really.

I was out there yesterday morning and we caught the usual 'stoney monsters' - 4 to 6" perch and panfish. I also caught one small pike, about 20 inches.
Mike...I HAVE to ask you. HOW do you get a limit of panfish out of the north lake??? lol You must really like doing a LOT of cleaning work to get bit sized pieces of fish.
Don't get me wrong...I am not complaining....the more smaller fish that are removed the better chance for the others to grow large. This lake jas obviously suffered from an overpopulation of panfish.
One other note.....if you plan to fish this lake right now....DO NOT FISH THE NORTH END. There is a pressure crack, running east and west, that is spiltting the lake in two. The crack is covered with snow, but you can see the snow line to the right...if you come down the hill. I poked it with a spud yesterday and it wasn't pretty. The 1st hit broke through the 5" of snow and the 2nd hit went right through the ice.
Keep yourself on the south end of the lake and you should be fine.

Fidel, i was waiting for someone to comment on the limit. It was a limit of 3-6" gills. More like 3-5" gills, I caught one 6". Threw them back. Fished only 1 1/2 hrs till 5:15 pm.
