Local scouts testing hunting badge of merit

"When I mentioned the hunting merit badge proposal to the boys, they all started cheering. You don't get that kind of excitement from a merit badge on citizenship."
Troop 202 is one of 20 scout troops in West Michigan that are participating in the program, according to Mike Sulgrove, the executive director for the Gerald R. Ford Boy Scout Council.

Sounds like a great badge. Hope it catches on nation wide. I see it as a no brainer. After all, there are merit badges for wilderness survival, cooking, fishing, hiking, orienteering,... why not hunting?

I too hope this catches on. It will get more kids back in to the outdoors. We need to pass it on.

Scouts miss big picture on hunting

Sometimes even the best intentions can miss the mark.Take the case of a new merit badge being offered on a trial basis to nearly three dozen Boy Scout troops in western Michigan. The subject is hunting.
