I have been hunting a farm in hillsdale a few times this past week and have seen alot of does and buttons but no bucks? Do you guys hunt different areas this time of year , I been hunting the edges of standing corn and woods . I plan to hunt tom. but try next to a thicket and a cut corn field? anyone having success or seeing bucks?
I'm usually seeing fresh tracks but travel appears to be very limited particularly during daylight. Last Saturday I walked just over 5 miles scouting a new area in thick cover, I only cut one fresh track in the overnight snow.
This late in the season I usually stick to the thick stuff but I eventually found most of the active sign in a pretty open area. Sat there for the last hours of daylight and saw nothing.
Haven't gotten out since but looking forward to tomorrow AM.

In my opinion, it's hard to beat hunting the edge of standing corn that adjoins a wooded bedding area at this point in the season.

Lately if I see one I see 15. Does, buttons and a few younger racks. I wish I knoew where the big boys went to winter. The majority are yarding up...coat-rack-head's by himself somewhere and I can't find him either.

i went for a walk this morning looking at tracks in the snow hoping to prepare for a hunt this weekend and the deer seem to be using their old trails again. mostly smaller tracks but i did come accross a big sunken set along my swamp edge. it was the same trail that i saw the big boy use during gun season so i hope its still him and he made it. i did have 13 deer out feeding in my standing soy beans this afternoon just before dark. it was hard to tell but it looked like 4 big does and the rest looked like 1 1/2 year olds and fawns.

well I hunted the farm today and seen nothing for such a nice day I guess too nice? I did kick up a deer as I was hanging my stand maybe to close to the bed area? I was only 10ft into the woods along a cut corn field . I put some corn out and my camera so I plan to hunt tue. evening since its supposed to get cold and snow??

Threw a stand up in a large Maple last saturday (20th) afternoon near my house. Not much cover at all, but I figured I would try it out. Friday morning, about 8:30 AM I'm sitting there and I hear a noise behind me. I turn real slowly over my right shoulder, and there about 15 yds behind me is a nice 8-point. Of course, he is looking me right in the eye since I had no cover around my stand. He didn't spook too much, just altered his path about 50 yds to my right and disappeared into the woods. I have thought about that moment hundreds of times since. In hind-sight, I should have just sat there motionless. I think he would have walked right under me, which would have given me the opportunity to draw back and wait. Oh well, lessons learned! Also had three deer ( a doe and two yearlings) under me the following night. That time, I sat and waited for them to walk around me. They walked around underneath me for about 45 minutes. Had me pinned in the tree well after dark. Could have shot any of them a few times over, but I have one in the freezer already from archery opener. Going out for the big one. My neighbor has seen a 14 pointer twice in the past few weeks in the same area. Not much time left, but you never know.

I shot a VERY small doe Friday. Wasn't being picky (had a doe tag to fill) and that was the last day I could hunt. Oh well, sure will be tender vittles:)
