OH! We got ours on wax worms and small jigs, also had good luck on mini craws from Berkley powerbaits. I stop going to Canada, because of all there rules. It's seems to me they are trying to target us. I can catch all the fish I need here in the good old USA. I might go back someday, but I won't go as much as I use to. Make sure you know all there rules. Check on weather often. Good luck.

Try Randy's hut service. For $20 USD they drive you out to a heated shanty and supplies the minnows. Last year we found best sucess with wigglers and minnow on green and red teardrops. You need to bring wigglers with you. But the ones that fell out the perch we caught all mushy and regergated worked the best. Randy phone is 705 437-2989. The shantys will fit about 4 people comfortably. All you need a is your poles and bucket to carry your fish back in. I would call ahead to see when the ice is safe to drive on.

Also the Georgiana Inn is a good place to stay.

In Randy's Huts could you see the perch? We fished with Kingfisher Huts and the kids and adults too loved being in about 12 feet of water and seeing the perch come in and even though we usually catch around 80 to 100 each outing and its a blast we were just wondering if another hut service put you on some bigger fish to try. Most all the ones we kept were 8 and 9 inchers with a few 10 to 11 but not many. Thanks for any info

I also recommend fishinglakesimcoe. I post on there quite a bit under my same name. You can fish cooks on first ice, which may be as soon as this weekend, georgina will be hard very shortly also with this cold snap thats coming. and last but not least is coochiching which we have been fishing now for almost a month. casey's huts is another good operation. But if you have your own sled ,and gear you can probably do much better on your own. I go over there between 7 to 15 times a year. Been there three times already this year. Don't worry about bait, use artificials, ie , spoons.

Bronsonman, we went late march last year Perch run was about over. We caught about 35- 9 inch and above. Threw back anything smaller dumb the littler ones would have tasted as good. Would have caught more if I could have convince my dad to lose his fancy Haley's and Ken's hooks and try a simple teardrop like I caught 10 to his 2 fish. I guess as they say you can not teach an old dog new tricks is really true. We were in 25 ft of water so you could not see bottom. I did catch 2- 26 in Whitefish. That was exciting on a little pole with 2# test.
Randy's is out of Port Bolster, Where is King's hut out of?
We are planning to go 2nd week Feb if ice is ready. I can not wait.

I talked to a Simcoe Fishing adventure's Hut operator yesterday. He said the lake was frozen over Monday night and he planned on putting huts out this weekend on Cook's Bay. Not sure but it seems a little earlier but he said at the rate the ice is freezing he will have 6 to 8 inches by Saturday. Send an email or update on your trip. Also can you send the phone number for Kingfishers huts maybe we will try them this year.

-Good Luck

I heard ice is still too thin. Maybe enough this weekend. My Dad and his buddies are holding off for a week.
