Even though its shallow, the water is often moving through it; I would guess one more week or so. Did you check behind Wyandotte hospital yet??? That will probably be safe before Frenchman's. I dont think there is a ladder to get on the ice there, however. Big gills on the right side if the perch aren't in...

Have'nt fished there in a couple years mainly cause of low water, accually no water.
for many years, it has frozen completely through.
Ford yacht club is accessable from the creek and some did OK there last year.
We fished Frenchmans bay last year and did alright too.
2-4 FOW being the norm.

Ice fishing is excellent down in your neck of the woods Islander. The problem on the island is the lack of access. Some excellent perch fishing to be had in most of those canals and marinas. Send me a PM if you wanna hook up sometime. Maybe you got an access point or two!!!:)

Anytime Islander
I got a few tricks up my sleve for grosse isle perch.
shoot me a PM when you get any ice in the canals.
Are you familier with the spring AKA "the wishing well"?
which is great access to frenchmans bay/creek and Ford yacht club.

Thanks guys. I will keep an eye on the ice conditions in the canals and I am very familiar with the old wonder well. I would really enjoy hooking up with someone who enjoys ice fishing. I was not aware that the canals had such good ice fishing. Just let me know what I will need. I live mid-point on the island but have a solution for the parking problem.

Jethro, if you know this area well lets get a few guys and meet when it is frozen enough and we'll learn some of you tricks..I have been to the end of Frenchman's creek for 2 years in a row and could not get them going..did see some nice pike caught on tip-ups in airport bay. So when Islander tells us it's a go let's catch 'em.

Guys, I am now on ice alert. As the weather gets colder, and the ice forms, I will keep you posted.

Myself and Tatto Mike spent quite a bit of time out on Airport Bay last year. I was hoping for good ice this year to take the kids. Watching fish (even the carp and shad) through a spearing hole in the complete darkness of a shanty is pretty cool. I think they will enjoy just watching as well as fishing. Sounds like a possible outing should the ice become safe enough to cross the canal.
BTW, where's Tattoo Mike been? We'll hear more from him once the water hardens.

Islander/Yellabelli-
Sounds like a plan fellas
The east/west channel of Frenchmans creek, that enters into the Trenton channel, has been my favorite area. It usually stays a little deeper. Im curious to see how she'll be this year.
First ice is best, so haller back when she's safe

Gunrod, an outing for everyone is a great idea. What a great way to meet and learn. Now for the cold weather.

And the ice seems to be some of the best outings ever. Crowds don't screw with the fish too much in the bay as it usually has quite a few folks out there anyways.
Now just hope for good ice. A good, week long deep freeze (nothing more than 20 degrees day or night) would really help.

Yep I was thinkin' that too. Maybe next week. If the conditions keep up like this we could have them done in June just in time for the first ice.:D
