Does anyone have a way to sharpen auger blades? Or any idea who does it and how much?

There is a hand held sharpener available at most tackle stores, I use it to touch up the blaeds every trip. Each year I buy a new set and hold the old ones for spares. Since I have two identical Augers, this works well for me ( one is my Sons)

I know you can have them sharpened proffesionally, but I don't know the cost..

Just sent mine in for exchange from www.fish307.com. For about $13 they will take your old set and mail you a new set. Took about 7-10 days to get them back and they are nice. I have heard they are hard to sharpen correctly by yourself.

I was concerned about getting the correct angle too.
New blades for mine cost less than $13
But, I sure would like to keep my auger as sharp as possible. It sure helps make those "few extra" holes when searching for that Hot spot:D
I'll have to do some web searching on this one.

Lazer makes a hand held one. 7 bucks at Wally World.

I sharpen my own with a stone. Work the angled side only (in a vice if you have one) and then touch up the flat side with the stone flat to it to remove any burrs. DO NOT BEVEL THE FLAT SIDE OF THE BLADE.

It's not hard, you just have to be carefull. If there are nicks in the blade, I go buy a new set.

Also, I always carry a second set and an allen wrench to change them with.

ARGH! Don't bother with the hand held sharpeners. They DON'T work. You will ruin your blades. Send them in to be resharpened or take them to somebody who knows what their doing.

I do this every year, I only use the hand sharpener to TOUCH_UP hte blades, never to fully sharpen one that is nicked, the touching up takes about 3 strokes, and does make a big difference, it basically just cleans the edge.

I'm with Banditto...never any luck with those things. A waste of time when new blades are cheap.

For touch up work, say after every use etc, they are fine. You will have a tough time making a dull blade sharp with those things though.

Played around trying to sharpen them things, they would cut paper, but wouldn't do ice, brand spankin new ones $14.00 at the most, all season, will drill a lot of holes, small cost. be safe, fish wise.~~><>...Jumbo.

IMO - I've got a Lazer, 6". Owned several years now. Still the original set of blades. Of course I've NEVER had allowed a nick in the blades at all. I bought the hand sharppener for the Lazer auger with it. Works excellently. Four or five strokes on each blade CORRECTLY ;) (flat-to-flat), and it is ready to go another round of a couple dozen or more like new.

I have a 6" Mora, A Xmas gift several years ago. Still has the original blades in it. Anyone have any luck sharpening those? The last time out (last season) it began to feel like it was only cutting on one blade. I have one of those hand held sharpeners from years ago, bought it to do my broadheads with.

I'm also beggining to see a pattern here. I know they're both Strikemasters but is the Lazer worth the extra money over the Mora? Anyone have/had both?

I have a 7 inch Mora and a 8 inch Lazer. The lazar definitly cuts faster and easier than the Mora. The lazar also has a more comfortable handle.

Duckman, I have a spare set so I can change my Jiffy blades when they get dull. I take them to my local hardware to be sharpened. They are always ready by the following week and it's only like $3.
