I was ckecking out another thread where someone asked what we thought was a safe ice thickness and alot of folks posted past horror stories about falling through which encourged me to make this post.

When I go ice fishing I bring along a long rope, a pair of home made ice picks (two 10" nails tied to a string).
and some type of P.F.D.

Now, I don't mean to be a "Joe Saftey" but alot of the accidents of falling through ice seem to happen during "first ice". So i try to bring a couple of items that could help save someone.

Hopefully I will never need it, but If someone falls through, I may be of some help to them.

I realize this is just common sense, but too many times I see guys leave the saftey equipt. home thinking "I will never need it" the only problem is maybe someone else will need it.

I hope to see a few M/S faces out on the ice this season.
Good luck to all.

I hear the same thing every year, from my fishin' buddies,, "why do you bring all that CRAP?", ya NEVER use it!

Just in case,,, I know we might not need it,, but someone else might.

Safety is a good thing! I never go out on first ice without ice picks, PFD and rope.
Remember....ANY safety precaution (PFDs, seat belts in cars, safety on firearms, etc) gets used less than 2% of the time. The issue is that the consequences of NOT having them when they are needed are too severe to justify the risk.
