My wife wants to get out and do some ice fishing this year. What kind of thermal underwear do you guys recommend?

I would suggest Polypropelene ! I have some and they are great. They wick away moisture to keep you warm and DRY. The dry part can be the biggest battle in keeping warm. I put them on first and if it's going to be REALLY cold, I might put on a pair of regular "thermal underwear" on over them and then my pants. But the polypropelenes next to the skin is the best way I've found to stay warm.

This is was I wear for Ice Fishing and Hunting; Shirt and Pants, DuoFold 100% polypropylene light weight's long johns. Then shirt and pants, DuoFold two layer long john's . Inner layer 100%polypro, outer layer 70% ployester 30%wool. With these two long john's on and a sweat shirt and pants, I am as warm as can be.

Good Luck

I work outside all day long with water main breaks etc.....Polypropelyne is the only way to go!!! Even when fishing...say you have a long walk out and you build up a sweat....in a few minutes your dry again from the wicking of it!!

Flyrod4Steelhead has it right. DuoFold is the best Long Underwear.

I use the heavy weights under carhardts with warm socks/boots. The Polypropolene are a good idea, since the heavy weight DuoFolds are almost too warm and its easy to get sweated up.

I agree with the polypropolene, I got the (ECWS) Extreme Cold Weather Service, you do get warm on the walk out, but you won't get cold once your there.
I also got a good pair of Lacrosse Snowdonia boots, they also have poly liner plus wool felt midsole, feet never got cold last year.

Duofold is the best. Its also expensive. Just make sure it has some wool in it.
