Well the 10 acre pond by University and 75 was covered with ice this morning and local temps. were 17 when I woke up. Any bets on being on the ice this year? What was the date of the first trip out last year? If I remember right it was early last year. Good luck but be safe!!

Last year down here in SW Michigan our first trip out on the ice was Dec. 6th. with 4" of ice the channels of some of the lakes.

I don't think we'll have that this year.

I ususally figure on Jan. 1. Any sooner would be a bonus and any later is a little late.

We do have a few small lakes near here that freeze first. Will check them out in a week or so.

What about your canal Joe? Have you tried it recently? Might like to come by this weekend a poke a few holes from the seawall for Specks and gills. Jeff was looking at getting out and fishing some canals too.

I live on the canals at Metro Beach. My dad pulled what boats we had left in the water out yesterday. The last canal that runs along Venetian had about 3/4" inch of ice on it yesterday. I live off of the sencond canal in with the little bay on it. Same thing. About 3/4" inch of ice on it. Going to break it up tonight. Got to get my duck boat back in for the hunt this weekend. But after this weekend will be breaking out the Ice Fishing Condo and all of the gear that goes along with it. Also, the bay between Metro and the Clinton River had ice going out about 100 yds from shore yesterday. Today, with the wind kicking up a little bit, all of the ice in that bay was gone. Well, it won't be long now guys.

Hey Gsepan,,,,,Haven't seen or caught a fish in my canal yet. I last checked a wide area on Sunday with the big cane pole. Feel free to stop by & check it out if you want.

Just checked ice thickness on my canal, it's 2 inches. Took a few steps out, and if it wasn't for that funny cracking sound, I wouldn't have run back to the ladder so fast. Time to tie the rope around my waist, hooked to the dock cleat and take a 20 step venture........

Checked my favorite little hole and only about 1". The only thing is the next three days are going to be 41, 49,38. Then on Friday the bottom drops back out and we get down to icemaking again. Still a few weeks away in my opinion. Still sticking with Christmas as my prediction for the Southeast lakes.

Yeah, i think by christmas ought to be about 5-7 inches of most inland SE lakes....almost rihgt on with last year...there is a good freeze coming, and i am sure plenty more to come.

I checked the docks, to the rear of the bait shop by Selfridge. There were 3 guys standing/fishing on the ice. I spoke with one who stated He was fishing on the ice Sunday. action was slow with only a few gills. The ice was around 2" thick and the water was silty.

The recent gale force winds raised the lake levels by about a foot up here on the north end of the lake. That busted up the ice we had, and 41 degree water temps took care of the rest. My canal is soft water again. Kind of a bummer, but all it takes for me to unwinterize my 12 footer is to tip it back over.......

Same thing over here Joe_G at Metro. The warm temps and hi water pretty much eliminated the ice we had. The canal behind my house had some skim in places. Other than that it was pretty much wide open. With the warm weather coming up next week its hard to say when we will be out on the ice.

Checked out the canals around gibraltor...around an inch-skim on most of them. The marina has around 2, maybe more. I dyke probaily has a little more, like 3 or 4. Next week, highs in the low-mid 30s, one in the low 40s, lows all in the 20s, means more ice, then, i gues sin 2 weeks, there will be fishible ice aound here.

There is no ice in Gibtown that I saw. Those canals dont freeze with the hot water coming down them. Was just down them yesterday in my boat.
