i put cut up two to three cloves of garlic into 1/4s. stick them inside the loin. wrap the loin with bacon, then cover with honey and brown sugar. smoke for a good 1 1/2 hrs or until the loin gets done pink in the middle. keep adding the honey and brown sugar mix about every half hour.

Just saw your post so you might try this one for Christmas.Soak loin in itialian dressing and a can of beer for 24hrs in fridge.Smoke on high with water pan full of water and potatos cut in half. Baste loin with barbecue sause ocassionly. The drippings from the loin give the potatos a great taste.

Tried smoking the loin yesterday. Damn it was good. And I'm not really a pork fan. Cut it in four pieces to make four different flavors. One was plain, one was rolled in cajun spice, one was rolled in smokey spice, and the last was injected with mestique BBQ.
Gotta do one for Christmas!!!! Along with deep fried turkey (a family favorite---have done them for the last 3 years) Never much left over from 2 breast and one whole turkey.

My neigbor up north is the king of smoking good food in general. We smoked 2 full lions 2 weeks ago and it was the best. We also smoked 35 lbs of kielbasa. I will get the goods and post after next weekend.

Best kicker for any smoked pork loin recipe is to put a tray of Sauerkraut under the meat to catch the drippings. The sauerkraut cooked this way is truly awesome!! Also works with Polish Sausage etc. You need to make sure the sauerkraut doesn't dry out.

Another method worth trying .... deep fry! I got a deep fryer last year and after cooking a turkey couldn't bring myself to wasting the oil. Dug around the freezer looking for cadidates and picked a pork lion. I'm telling you it was awsome! Crispy golden brown on the outside, and melt in your mouth on the inside!

Nothing like digging up old bones!!!
I am going to smoke a pork loin next weekend. Would you recommend smoking at a lower temp (150 deg.) for a longer time or a higher temp (???) for a shorter time. Is there a rule of thumb that would help me with the times, i.e. xxxx amount of hours per pound of meat? I am looking forward to this and want to put the best product forward for the family.
Thanks for the help!!

I did mine on low temp for long hours.(lots of smoke time) Can't remember lenght of time. Maybe 4-5 hours for mine. You can use a meat themometer to check internal temp. after a few hours.
