Anyone else notice that there seems to be fewer gobies?? The canal I was fishing on yesterday is usually full of them in the shallows, didn't see a simgle one. Habitat hasn't changed, it's still broken concrete. Just wondering if it's localized. Anyone else notice??

the smallies figured out they are yummy..... that and i think their on the downside of the population spike they had. Seems the same has happened to the zebra mussels. They are still there, but a lot less that what there was at one time.

There are still plenty of them, they just moved out of the canal and into the deeper water of the main lake basin. They will be back in there in the spring.:(

I used to catch them there in years gone by until ice up, now there are none around. The small ones make good perch bait, jumbo's like them. I worked their usual haunts and didn't see a one.

MSUICEMAN- I agree, smallies like them too. Ditto on the zebra mussels. Don't sem to be as many, they've reached equalibrium.

I used them 20 ft. from where they were caught. No transport involved. Still illegal??

Guess it's a good thing then, was unaware. Thanks for the info, so much for that! Knew the DNR wanted them killed.

Mallards like to eat them after you kill them, had a bunch along 9 mile pier would hang around as long as I fed them. Amazing how many they'll eat, I always thought the were vegetarians.

I know, it seems kind of odd, but they have to draw the line somewhere. I asked Boehr for his learned interpetation of the law to make certain I am not full of it. He will let us know for sure.:)

My son has trapped plenty of them in his minnow trap and knows not to release them to swim another day. Unfortunately, he thought that putting a sharp piece of bent wire through their head and letting a Small Mouth ingest them was about the same as squeezing their little melon with a pliers. :p BTW, he no longer disposes of gobies in that manor.

Unfortunately, if you are using them as bait, they are then in your posession, which is illegal. Pg 8 of the handbook according to Boehr.
