Any kids like to tie flies??? Or did anyone start out tying as a kid? Our kids have shown great interest the past couple of years. I have been tying during the day and our 4 year old has been keeping me company and asked if he could try. Why not!
Here he is at the vise. Talk about concentration!

Here is the finished product. He worked on it after the pic and got a little scissor happy, lol. We're basically down to a hook!

Try some caddis and some eggs using micro chenille.
The caddis are easy for kids. Micro chenille, a gold rib and a strand of peacock hearl for the head.
Use micro chenille in egg colors and then a small piece of yarn at the head that flows back.
I let Jessy do some tying with these and they came out well. If he ever gets his grades up he'll be on the boards and do more tying.

Gunrod, great suggestions. The older two(10 and 8) are ready to try tying something different than an egg! We've kept it simple in the past since they show interest and then they've had enough. However, since it's that time of year to start tying more, they are really into it this year. A caddis would be a great choice. Tell Jessy we are looking forward to seeing his creations!
Riverboy, I think your daughter has the bug, lol!!!! She is REALLY focusing! I went to the other thread and missed it completely the first time around. Smart girl making her cuts on the top side! ;) Beautiful job!!
I had to laugh at Shoeman's predictions coming true, lol. College fund......
I learned something quickly with Warren, put a small chunk of cork on the hook. ;) He did the majority of the thread himself. I held the fly foam in position since a 4 year old doesn't have the best coordination but he did quite well.
