I know a lot of people on this site think humminbird is a better anchor than a fishfinder, but the new humminbird matrix 55 looks like a quality finder/gps. It's basicilly the same as an eagle 320 but cheaper. Anybody have any suggestions?

I have not had good luck with humminbird fishfinders. Had one repaired 3 times and each time they charge me to fix it. The last time was two years ago and it is broke again. I will replace it with some other brand.

I haven't had good luck with Humminbird fishfinders either. Anytime that I try to save money, I'm usually disappointed. Lowrance has always been a pretty good finder but I would spend as much as you can afford to get the best quality you can. My last GPS/Finder was a Raytheon L-760 which cost 2,700 at the time and although it is a nice unit, I'm still not totally satisfied with its performance in shallow water such as LSC.

I saw the "specs" and "features" of their new line and they look good, but I personally would go with a quality fishfinder over a humingbird. Ask SalmonBum from this site how many times he has to "ReBoot" his POS hummingbird(every minute). The only hummingbirds I would look at are the Legends that were actually the replacement for the Zercoms(paper graph style LCD display), even then only as a backup of cause theyre kind of cool to view.

I have a Chumminturd 3D at the helm, it is great for finding and tracking bottom structure. If you actually want to find fish, get a real fish finder.

a piece of string and a sinker to a Hummingbird, about the same resolution too. Lots cheaper!! Or buy any other reputable unit, lots of good depth finders out there.

When I bought my Tracker, I had them take off the Hummingbird and install a Lowrance 350A.
