Well today went out to shoot my guns for season, and my 20ga. is 2 inches low at 75yds. It's an 870 with just a smoothebore bird barrel shooting sluggers..it just may be my most reliable deer gun, it shoots much better than my model 37 ithaca deerslayer, so my choice will be the 870. I know it has good range as i dropped a do at 120 yds last year, so she'll be the choice for saturday!! Also curious abou what others use on opening day in the shotgun zone? 20, 12, 410 or muzzy?

When i get my muzzy sighted in that will be the only replacement to the 20 ga.

My brand new Rem. 870 12 Guage with the Winchester Platinum Tip Sabots. Really packs a punch and I can get that thing out to 150 easy. I am 1.75 inches high at 50 right now which would put me dead on at around 150.

870 Express 12 ga. with a smoothbore slug barrel, 1.75 X 5 Bushnell scope and Brenneke slugs. Sighted her in 2" high at 50 yards and I'm good to go. 4 of my last 5 shots were touching eachother and could have been covered with a folded in half dollar bill. Man I can't wait.

Good luck to all and be safe.

410 with buckshot  lol, I would think that the controversy would be btw. 12 ga. and muzzleloarders

Shot the smoothbore 870 at 50 yds. yesterday. Vented rib with a single bead.
Kept all shots well inside the paper plate.
Don't know if I'll use it this year but I know it will work if I do.

After the 870 says !!BOOM!! there's usually something for the dinner table.

Here in Illinois I still have a week, opener isn't until the 21st. I will be taking my 870 special purpose, rifled barrell, cantilever scope mout, bushnell banner scope and lightfield hybred slugs. Going to range Saturday. Here in Illinois they open up the state poilce ranges to hunters for sighting in guns. Sure hope the scope isn't off by much, I'm not sure my sholder can take more that 10 or 15 lightfields at a time.

shane a 410 will do fine on deer. use a slug. slugs for 410 are real cheap . A 410 is a 45 cal. I would keep any shot under 50 yrds. better yet under 40 yrds. I took a doe with a 410 when I was a bit younger. It did the job just fine. Make sure the inside of the barrel is free of obstructions. Ie: rust. and take a few shots to see where it is shooting. good luck and let us know how it go's

Mossberg 500A 12 ga rifled barrel. I wont be hunting with this gun but I took it out and sighted it in with Remington Slugger 3" mags useing open sights and I was shooting 1" high at 100 yds. I was impressed, it would be the gun I would use in heavy cover.

Take your time with that 410. Your shot placement will be critical.
For sure shoot it and know where it hits at 40yds.

Trout King, I didn't think anything could shoot better than my Ithaca Deerslayer model 37 featherlite. I use the 3" Remington copper solids when I hunt with it. This will be the 3rd year that I only carry a pistol.

Benelli Black Eagle with slug barrel in 12 ga. and Leupold 3 x 9. Use Lightfield sabot slugs in 2 3/4 inch 1 1/4 oz. Or Winchester Partition Gold sabot slugs in 2 3/4 385 grain.

Also, will have S&W 629 or 657 strapped on hip in case they are in close. 44 mag in 300 grain JHP/XTP or 41 mag in 210 grain JHP/Hi-Shok.

Browning 10 ga. pump with a 32 inch barrel, loaded with 18 pellets at .33 caliber. Extra full Turkey choke hanging off of the end. Group them within a pie plate at 40 yards. I have never had a deer walk away after one shot. Never taken a shot past 50 yards and never will. I know my restrictions. ........................................ I hope he is within my range tomorrow.........

Remington 870 with rifled barrel and a tasco scope shooting Winchester Partition gold sabots. I can get a great shot pattern and knockdown power. I know from target shooting that this combo can reach out a good long way.

.45 cal MDM muzzleloader. 209 primer with 2 x 50gr pellets of Pyrodex. 2.5x - 7x scope. Worked like a charm yesterday, 30 yard shot on a running deer, right through the liver and left lung.
