Fished the Huron today from 2pm to 730pm. My dad and I put his 12 foot fiberglass boat in at the dam and floated down to I75 with no luck. We did see one guy hook a walleye and a few moments later he lost another fish he claimed was a steelie but I think it was another walleye. We talked to about 50 people during the stretch of about 5 miles and no one was hooking fish. I think I am going to give it another week and just work on tying.

We did notice the warm sun brought on a hatch of brown stone flies. I also hooked a stick that had a ton of fat and bright green caddis stuck on it. Maybe the fish are gourging themselves on the stones and caddis.

I tried Lower Huron Metropark Tues and Weds. High murky water, no luck. Scouted the smaller streams. The waters clean but no fish of any kind. Fished under the Huron River Rd bridge just downstream from French Landing. The fishing was easier but no takers. I talked to a couple of guys near the dam who were having some trouble fishing the higher waters.

Huroc was packed today. I saw a steelie taken about 100 yards from the foot bridge. It looked a little dark (holdover from winter?) but I was on the other side of the river. I didn't see any other fish taken.

I agree there seems to be a hatch right now. I saw swarms of little flies, maybe blue-winged olives. Has anyone tried dry flies for steelies?
