I gave a thumbs up because of what I did for the first time ever. Was in stand by 3pm. Was sitting with my buddies son, and decided to try a little rattling and grunt's. Not 5 min into the first sequence,, I see a deer trotting towards us, down the trail. "Anthony, Deer, Deer." Where? "On the trail, coming at us." I set the rattle bag down, put the grunt tube in my coat and grab my bow. The only thing is, the deer stopped did the famous "bob-n-weave" then went to east. That was the very first time that I have rattled a buck in. It didn't last long, and was fast. I didn't get a good look to how many pt's it had, I just know that I seen antler's, and they were fairly big. My heart was pounding, hand's were shaking, and couldn't catch my breath for a few minutes. Anthony was laughing at me for a few minutes.
As the evening grew, and time was getting short on us, I was gonna do another short sequence of rattling and grunt's. But something just told me to look behind me.....Hear come's a nice doe. I slap anthony in the chest, and point in the direction of the deer. The deer come's into a clearing......Anthony pull's back, and hit's his leg......the doe look's at us, and he let's down. Tries again, same thing. So I tell him to give her a moment to relax, then whack her. I see his hand go behind is back, and I was wondering what he was doing. He stand's up, and the doe look's at us again. He finally come's to full draw only to have her take a jump away now 20yds. Quartering away, left leg back, right leg forward, I tell him to shoot tight behind the shoulder..........Ting....Thump......Hmm that didn't sound like a hit. We watch her trot off a littlw way's then walk outa site. By this time Anthony is shaking bad. We wait for awhile, then get down, and check his arrow out. A clean miss. The arrow hit a branch, and went right below her. I checked for belly hair's on the arrow and on the ground. Nothin. So another missed deer by the 13yr old, that make's 2.
Sorry this is so long, but I was proud of him. Especialy the way he handled the doe every time she lookd at us. Proud of myself as well for rattling in a buck.
