I didn't hit the water today. My 5 yr old got out of school two hours early, so I spent the morning putzing around the house and the afternoon with him fixing up some of those nagging odds and ends on the boat. I had taken a Loomis 7'7" bucktail rod and stood it up against the boat, and promptly forgot about it. The wind blew it down, and I never heard it. I jumped down from the trailer and I heard the poor rod scream in agony as my foot landed squarely on the rod. Visual examination shows no damage....I will get out tomorrow and see what really happened to it.
I HATE when I do dumb stuff like this. Still have five days of vacation left, and I jump on one of my favorite rods which no one in town stocks. Why couldn't it have been one of the trolling rods?geeeeeez.

Hey I have been known to troll........when I couldn't stand up to cast anymore! ;)

Seriously though, my Tigers cost 25-30% what a good Muskie casting stick does, and I don't think I could hurt those even with my lard butt.:)

Here I am sitting at work tonight wondering how you did on the pond today waiting for some good muskie pictures, and all we get is a story of you pretending your fishing poles are trampolines. What's wrong with this picture?;) ;)

I had one of those moments earlier this year. We were out pike fishing, and I had just boated a small pike. I sat down my rod as I was unhooking the pike. Released the pike, rinsed my hands and picked my rod back up. Only problem, it has slid down the side of the boat and the rod had ended up under one of the sides of the cleat on the boat. When i picked it up, *SNAP*. Guess we will find out how good St Croix's customer support is soon! :D

if you heard something and it wasn't the snapping of a guide off, i think you're in for some trouble. graphite rods lose an amazing amount of their strength and durability when even very few of the graphite fibers are broken. Sounds like this has happened. If I happen to mistakenly touch a blank with a razor blank while working on it, I will not sell it because I am worried that it will come back to haunt me.
I hope it works out for ya, and it was just the thread wrap or a guide. But hey, rod companies need things like that to happen to stay in business. Remember the lifetime lightbulb company? Hard to make a living when you have a one time customer base.

Rod seemed to have survived, I gave it a workout yesterday. :)
