The wife and I were driving East on 196 at 7:30pm from Holland to Grand Rapids, passing under the the new South Beltline overpass, when a loud bang scared the sh** out of me. It sounded like I had hit another vehicle but I saw nothing. I pulled over and walked around my truck. I saw no damage, until I looked up. The roof and the top of my driverside door were caved in. I immediately call 911 and 3 Ottawa County Sheriff's quickly showed up.

One went up to the top of the new (not yet in use) overpass and saw some youths jump into the back of a pickup and speed away. The chase was on. Last I heard, the police didn't catch them, but are still looking.

It seems these rocket scientists were dropping concrete off the top of the overpass. If I was just a 1/2 second slower the block would have come through my windshield and would have killed me and maybe my wife.

Right now I am beyond angry and Those kids better hope that the police catch them before I do, But as I calm down I do hope the police catch them and put them away for a long time, letting justice prevail before they kill someone.

Howdy, P-S -

Glad to hear you and the Missus are alright! Those punk ba$tards ought to be put away for attempted murder, or assault with intent to do bodily harm! No way can they claim they didn't know it might kill someone...

Unfortunately, if they were minors or have a fairly clean record, they'll most likely get away with a nominal fine or probation....

Here's hoping they're caught and PUNISHED!

Glad to hear the only damage was to your vehicle and that you and your missus are ok.
It is a sad state of affairs when our young people do random acts of violence to others rather than spend thier time doing random acts of kindness for others.

Clearly there are youth with nothing better to do, and no regard for human life. Makes you wonder about what kind of adults the will become. Hopefully, they are caught and punished! Gald to hear you and your wife are fine.

Stupid people. You think they would have heard about the kids that dropped the brick off the overpass a few miles down the road on I-96. That lady wasn't as lucky you were. I sure hope they catch the punks. They deserve to do some time.

Glad to hear that no one was hurt. Those kids are extremely lucky. That same thing happend to a woman on i-96. i am a little foggy, but it was just after the lowel exit heading east and a brick went through her windsheild and hit her in the face. I believe she was in the hospital fora long time and the kids were just 17ish punks. It happened to my dad too, but instead of a brick it was a pumpkin. It hit his truck right on the windsheild on the passenger side. ripped his windsheild all the way off. Had he had a passenger with him they would probably be at least blind, and maybe worse (glass was stuck in the seat) It makes you think what the person that does this type of thing is actually thinking. But at least in your case, no one was hurt and somebody was watching out for you that day. May have helped that brick hit a little off its mark.

I cant believe the crap kids do these days, thank goodness your ok. The bad thing is if these kids are even caught I bet the punishment would be minimal. They should be charged with attempted murder and locked up for a very long time.

Glad you are OK... About 6 months ago the same thing happened in the (Grand Rapids) area but I'm not sure if it was the same overpass. The lady driver was hit in the head/ face and it damn near killed her (complete FUBAR). She was in the hospital for a couple of weeks.

I'm not sure if they caught the person responsible or not..

The incident you refered to happened at I-96 and Morse Lake. Yes they caught them. Complete punks.
