What does reverse-chine mean? I know what it looks like, because the new boat I just got has it. But.....

I am wondering what it is supposed to do, and how it makes the boat better?

Why does it make for supposedly improved hull design?

If i'm not mistaken EY a chine diverts the water away from the hull and helps it get on plane better and displacement of the hull provides better manuverability from dynamic forces caused by the water. :D

Oh.

Took it out on the river this evening for the maiden voyage..... and come to think of it, the boat did plane alot faster.

Sadly, it'll be tucked-away this weekend until the walleye opener arives in May.....

SARDog is right. The design serves a couple of purposes. One, it makes for a dryer ride by diverting the water down. Two, it helps to pack air under the hull and lift the boat out of the water. This helps the boat plane quicker, run faster, and better handling.
