my brothen-en-law took my boat up north. On the way home It was struck from the rear. What do ya think? Is it a total? No oil leaks, power head was untouched and the prop was damaged.

The only damage besides the prop is what is shown in the photo. the prop won't spin? Its a 2000 Johnson 15 hp. long shaft. l

I'm not a marine mechanic, but I would say that it is pretty well messed up if the prop won't turn. The impact of the collision probably forced the drive shaft out of alignment and did a number on the gearing as well. Take it into a shop and they should be able to tell you in about 2 min if it is salvagable. Any chance your auto ins will cover it?

Ed, I did something similiar to my 15 HP Johnson over 10 years ago. Replaced the bent shaft, a little creative aluminum welding and it is still in use today. I'm having a little trouble seeing exactly how much damage there is where the parts are seperated but I would centainly try to repair it before proceeding to any other options.

It's hard to tell the damage by the picture, but it looks like the casting is broken at the pivot point, if this is the case it can be welded back together, you might have to dissamble it some to get it done, not sure by looking at the pic. As far as the prop not turning, is it possible the prop got bent and jammed into the housing. Try removing the prop and see if the shaft will turn, make sure it's not in gear. Good Luck
