Was at BP the other weekend and picked up a pair of Irish Setter boots made by Red Wing. Has anybody ever owned a pair and how did you like them?
These are the "Versa-Track" model. They have interchangable tread spikes (like a golf shoe). Not that it makes a difference, but kind of a neat idea. They are Gor-tex with 1000 grams of thinsulate. They were marked down from $199 to $99. Figured for that price they were at least worth a try.

Thats a great deal. I have a few pair of Red Wings 400 gram and a couple pair of Setters one 600 and one 1,000 gram. They are top quality stuff. Never saw the versa tracks, did they have them in a 9 1/2???:D

Esox,
They did have 9 1/2 because that's what I tried on first. Decided to go with a 10 to facilitate a new pair of thick insulated socks. I was at BP the weekend before last, so not sure if they still have this deal going or not. They were on display right next to the isle.

I quit buying them because they are not made in the USA. Check to see if they are made here. Why ship more US dollars overseas.
Red Wings do sell boots that are made in the USA. Support our country on as much as you can buy.

I bought a pair of the 800’s last year and used them for the first time.
My feet never got cold. Never sweated either.
I liked the fact that they were not as heavy as others I’ve used. (Mickey Mouse Boots)
So far I’ve been satisfied with them. If they are as good this year as they were last year I’ll use them again next year.

Good luck, and I hope you like going bare foot. I was in a boot store a while back. The owner told me that Red Wing and Danner were about the only shoes made in the USA anymore. Seems our buddy Clinton had the EPA "outlaw" the glue that all the shoe manufactures were using. China just happened to chime in and tell everyone the glue was "legal" to use in their country, so come on over. Seems like all but a few did. Everyone was scrambling to come up with a new glue. Danner even pulled every shoe off of store shelves once to make sure no one got bad boots when they had a problem with their new glue. See what a $300,000 illegal campaign contribution from a foreign government can get ya?

Irish setters are some of the best boots I have worn.I have a pair going on 4 years old and I haven't even begun to wear the soles yet.I just use them for hunting though. They still look new but I take good care of them.Try to get that kind of mileage out of a Rocky or Wolverine boot and it just wont happen.Best of luck.

I bought a pair a few years ago and wear them exclusively for hunting. They are the most comfortable, least maintenance boots I have ever owned and I will continue to wear them until some disaster happens, then I will buy another pair just like them.
BTW, if you take them to a Red Wing store, they will clean and re-waterproof the outside as often as you like for the life of the boot. Which, will be longer if you do it. :p
