Ok, not brand new but a 2002 Hyde. It has a few nicks in the gel coat that I'll fix but other than that I am completely happy with this boat and can't wait to get it on the water.

Chris at Hyde Boats was excellent for customer service.
How much bigger is she than the one you just went through?

16.8 feet compared to 14'. I can also put 5 (possibly a 6th but never would) people compared to 3 in the old one. This thing has built in rod and rod case holders as well as tons of storage. I can't wait to get it in the water. Might just have to take a spin on the Huron tomorrow if time permits.;)

Congrats guys.
It's hard to beat a Hyde or Clacka. Something about the balance and ease of rowing one.
Have fun and stay out of the trees.

Pat,
Remember the thread about a "balanced boat"?
I just ran across this picture. Chromium risked his life and waded out into an 8mph current to capture it.
Even with the motor, a wad of chain and only the rower's seat occupied, the stern is still above the waterline. Now that's balance. :)

That is, until I get in the front. Then the stern is a little farther out of the water. I believe KingfisherII calls it "Ballast".

Yeah, I'm looking forward to putting it in the water. If I didn't have so many things to do I would hit the Huron for a bit today just to row it.
I'll try to get some more pics later today. You guys won't believe the storage in this thing.

Ralf,
How much water do you need to float that thing ?
When you bottom, is your driftboat a major pain to pull it off into deeper water to float again ?
Thanks,
Pat

You would really have to ask Chromium. :D :o
Actually, It will float in about 4-6", depending on load. Keep in mind, mine's the 16.8 Combo and quite heavy. Add a cooler with beverages, motor, 2 anchors, gear and a few heavyweights, we may have 900+ pounds in it. The larger the boat, the higher it floats. It's all about displacement.
BTW, I love your new signature. I feel the same way
